"American Idiot"

This is all about the kids i've seen at school that hate Bush but they don't know why, they're just along for the ride. I've rewritten the lyrics to Green Day's "American Idiot" since it's a stupid song already, I thought I'd give the song a different viewpoint, the idea that some people nowadays are taking our freedoms for granted.

Don’t wanna be an American idiot
I’m just a slave to the corporate media
I’m just an ungrateful brat with paranoia
That I’m not as cool as the rest of America

Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the idiot nation
Where our freedoms are undermined with egos
We don’t know what were complaining about
But we know if there is any doubt
Our Green Day CDs will help our hate to grow.

Well maybe I’m the punk of America
Kicking dirt on Washington’s agenda.
I’m fighting the redneck propaganda
By blasting Green Day in states of hysteria.

Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the idiot nation
Where our freedoms are undermined with egos
We don’t know what were complaining about
But we know if there is any doubt
Our Green Day CDs will help our hate to grow.

Don’t wanna be an American idiot
Gonna move my arse to Korea
Then I’ll be glad I left dumb America
Although I’m tortured by Kim Jung’s agenda.

We are the MTV generation
Whining in Hot Topics across the nation
Where our freedoms are undermined with egos
We don’t know what were complaining about
But we know if there is any doubt
Our Green Day CDs will help our hate to grow.

Bravo!

I agree that there are a lot of punks who are anti-Bush or America, just because it's the cool thing to do. I mean, I respect whatever political viewpoint you have, as long as you're able to back it up. That's why I hate those hysterical liberals...they give the rest of us a bad name.

It's almost the same as the original song. And if you listen to the album American Idiot, it's a ****ing excellent album. Some of Green Day's best work. Not that it's not all bollocks, but it's still a good album.

Well the point was to keep the overall tone of the song but turn the cynicism onto the band. I haven't heard the rest of the album, but I think this song is rather silly and it sounds like they don't quite understand what they're talking about, and if they do, they're doing it in a rather immature fashion. I do commend the guys for their bravery in playing 9 minute punk rock mini "epics", and if they manage to reshape their sound a little bit more, they might show some promise in the future.

thank you for posting what ive been thinking for so long! Such misplaced anger and paranoia. Curdles my stomach to think that they might actually believe this garbage! Of course they really dont and are using confused teenage angst to sell albums! Just because its combative doesnt make it good or intelligent music.

If you like liberals and love good music I suggest Phil Ochs or Bob Dylan... Greenday is just a hair above Rap IMO

Freedoms for granted my ass. We simply point out this country is all talk. At least 50% of the freedoms you preach, you don't actually give people, and when someone calls your bluff, you carpet bomb them to oblivion. Like a guy with a big mouth that brings a gun to a boxing match.

I always thought I'd be the last person to be on this end of the argument, but here I am. Our country (USA...I'm not sure if you're American or not) does have citizens that take advantage of and abuse their freedoms. I'm talking about the people who don't vote, don't care, don't anything. The people who think it's ok for Bush to pass things like the Patriot Act, to go and fight unjust wars.

This is the average citizen...slowly pissing away his freedoms, and not caring.

Anyone like how this statement makes no sense at all? How did Iraq call our bluff? By gassing its citizens and preventing all kinds of free speech? And you must really like those rigged elections w/ Hussein getting 100% of the vote! What about Milosevic. America just doesnt like those who promote ethnic cleansing and genocide.
