| Top 5 Back-to-Back Songs Every now and then a band will put out an album that rocks from start to finish. Even less often, a band will put out an album that's great all the way through, but the two best tracks are back to back and are easily the highlight of the album. Following along the same lines as some other threads in the forum, I thought I'd start a top 5 list that I always thought was a good one. Okay, the title is a little ambiguous, so I'll clarify. Pick your top 5 favourite sets of two songs in a row, so you'll be picking 10 songs altogether. If you can't pick your favourite 5, just pick 5 that you like. To make it more interesting, let's place some restrictions on what we can and can't pick: the songs have to be from the original album, so that excludes compilations, live albums, remix albums, unplugged, and so on. Cover albums are okay though. Also, you can't pick songs that span across a side or disc (i.e.: you can't pick A and B sides of a 45 like "Hey Jude" and "Revolution"). However, if it's an album that was originally on LP that's been released on CD, you don't need to be too picky. Finally, you can't pick movements or parts of a longer song (i.e.: "Storm Signal" and "Celestial Voices" from SoS). Also, try to be a little more creative than something obvious like "Brain Damage"/"Eclipse". To start everybody off, here's my top 5 (that I can think of): 5. "Rock of Ages"/"Comin' Under Fire" from Def Leppard Pyromania (1983) tracks 7 & 8 4. "It's A Miracle"/"Amused To Death" from Roger Waters Amused To Death (1992) tracks 13 & 14 3. "Judith"/"Orestes" from A Perfect Circle Mer de Noms (2000) tracks 4 & 5 2. "Hellbound"/"Spiderbite" from Jerry Cantrell Degradation Trip, Vol. 1 (2002) tracks 7 & 8 1. "You Got Me Runnin'"/"Lady Strange" from Def Leppard High 'n' Dry (1981) tracks 6 & 7 *Note: For those of you know who may complain that those Jerry Cantrell songs are not from their original album, strictly speaking the single-disc version is a compilation. The original album, intended for initial release, is the double-disc version, with both discs given a volume number.

That's funny. I almost put that but then I couldn't decide between that and "My Sweet Lord"/"Wah Wah"!

You can actually argue that point with every NIN song. Trent knows what he's doing when he put the albums together. |
