| Some late night writings This pain within me-- It feels like quicksand Around my heart Around my soul It leaves no hope of escape Only this sinking Deeper and deeper down I can almost touch the bottom It won't be long now It can't be Please Pull me out Or let me sink -------------- I want to confess to you This fear of emptiness Of loneliness It would be my moment of weakness My minute of vulnerability Would you let me cry on your shoulder? Or would it be cold? I need you In this time of darkness Don't turn away Be with me Be my savior -Llowell |

| Re: Some late night writings The Rabbit’s Foot I Remember My brother telling me to check out Hendrix in the Early seventies. So I picked up a Greatest Hits Album called Smash Hits, sat down with the headphones, and my mind took off. Hendrix was Funk, Blues, Rock, and Psychedelic all wrapped up in one. It was quite an Experience when I first opened my ears to the genius of Jimi. Listening to music would never be the same to my young impressionable mind. That album thrust me into a whole different place as I sat on my parents living room floor with the headphones cranked in my ears. My mom would come in and tell me . “Turn it down or you‘ll go deaf” !!!! I looked at the back cover and was taken to a different place with the old west scene of Jimi, and the band dressed up like renegade outlaws. When I was learning to play bass guitar in High School my friend “Cooch” lent me an old bass called a Hagstrom. The Bass was odd in the sense that it had pegs for eight strings even though only 4 were strung. The Hagstrom Bass became a real topic of conversation as to its origins. A fellow in school was sure that it was stolen from Noel Redding the bass player of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. He was sure that it appeared on the LP Electric Ladyland, and even pointed out the track that the bass was played on. 1983 (a Merman I should turn to be) was the track that supposedly had an eight string bass featured on it. I could never be sure but was always up for talking about the topic whenever it arose. I never became a great bass player and finally “Cooch” asked me to return the bass as his friend wanted it back. Around this time the “Rabbits foot” appeared in my life. The rabbit’s foot belonged to my brother, and it also came with a story that had a Hendrix twist. A friend of my brother said that the rabbit’s foot was taken from Jimi’s guitar case onstage ,or backstage during a tour in the sixties. This story for some reason seemed more truthful to me, I guess because my older brother said it was true. I remember holding it in my hand and trying to relive it’s history. Was it at Monterey, or Woodstock I pondered as I held it in my hand hoping for some magic, or good luck to come with it. Back in those days you could find rabbit’s foot’s in little shop’s with trinkets. The good luck that they would bring was questionable, but interesting nevertheless. Many years have passed since I had the fortune of being introduced to Hendrix’s music. I still am a great fan and often wonder what kind of music he’d be playing now if he was alive. And what the music world would be like now if his life was not cut short. The shame is that we will never know the answer to those question’s. But at the same time we didn’t see Jimi get old and over the hill. Most fans could not envision Jimi getting old, and hanging around too long like other’s from his era. Jimi will forever be young in my mind waving around his white Stratocaster at Woodstock with his fringed leather buckskin jacket and headband. The Bass guitar is long gone, and recently I was told by “Cooch” that the story that followed that guitar was untrue. I’m sure my friend in High School still believes that story about the guitar , and that’s ok by me. The “Rabbit’s foot” is another story that still lives on. Was it really in Hendrix’s guitar case or not? I’m not really sure but it’s still a great story even if it’s not true. I wonder if the rabbit’s foot being taken from his case was bad karma for Jimi. Or was it just a plain old rabbit’s foot bought at a trinket shop with a tall story attached to it. If, or when, I get to Electric Ladyland in the after life, I’ll have to ask the man known as Jimi about these article’s. Until then I can still believe that I played Noel Redding’s Bass, and held in my hand a rabbit’s foot that belonged to the man that wielded that awesome White Strat at Woodstock. | Re: Some late night writings I should have posted this in short story or essays sorry folks. I guess a Mod will fix it. To give a little background on this post I have been writing a little bit in my spare time and with the help of my brother (a real writer) been getting a little better. All critics please come forward. |
