Ah Ha! Finally a thread with tangential proof that Organ Grinder really is Roger Waters, lurking on here...

Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow?

i heard that dave DOES own the works of Syd, as well as many others, but he wont release them because he wasnt in the band and feels that he since he wasnt, he shouldnt have any say in the releasing. without the other 75% of the band's approval (which he has yet to even aquire), he wont release them. just get yourself a napster type program and download all that you can find. i went through the list for the ones i wanted. hehe. im guilty. and its daves fault for driving me (and you all) to utter madness.

THE LIST I SPEAK OF...

On a related topic, I thought the recent BBC documentary was quite moving. There was obviously a lot of feeling for Syd amongst most the band members.

Syd earns a lot more than that in royalties per year

And Roger would like to meet Syd again, but is afraid to make him depressed. He says so himself in the documentary. I have it on video, and I`ve seen it several times. Yes, they all miss Syd a lot. Roger, too, but since Syd`s mother asked him to leave him alone, he has done just that, because he doesn`t want to cause him pain. There`s no doubt in me about his love for Syd. He just can`t handle the change Syd went through very well.

Why the other guys can`t get along is a mystery to me, though. I can understand that they wore each other out years ago, but that`s a long time ago now. I hope they can reconcile, but I think it`s ok if they don`t want to reunite. I`m grateful for what they made together. And I`m grateful for the music Syd made. I`m grateful that Dave released "Bob Dylan`s Blues". It`s great!!

Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow?

As 'tyranty' as Waters seemed to be, I think he has handled the past better than the other guys, in terms of his feelings about it as opposed to how his relationship is now with the other band members. From interviews I've seen he seems to have let go a lot of the 'hot head'edness and weight on his shoulders, yet guys like Gilmour seem to kind of seem grudgey and pissed. But I don't know, it's just what I interpreted from their attitudes about Floyd in interviews.

Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow?

Waters was always very jealous of syd. i too have that documentary on tape. know it by heart. good hr show, but leaves out alot of important aspects. yes, it seems roger was almost in tears a few times, as well as Gilmour, who was actually closest to syd , even after the 'split.'
but i smelled a little insincerity, put-on, falseness, as if waters was finally tired of fighting the syd legend and jumped on the wagon of "i miss syd so much" because he fears the alienation that would be caused if he spouted some of the feelings he long ago betrayed-- in the press, in interviews, in his former actions. or perhaps a bit of this is GUILT!!! it WAS he after all who butted heads with syd the most even from the start, and was never understanding of his oncoming illness to the point of being cruel to syd,,,,AND it was he who kicked syd out. Let's not forget, people, this is a guy whose own subordinates mutinied and beat him up during his short stint as leading seaman naval cadet. apparantly he didn't learn his lesson THAT time, since he proceeded to bully his way thru the rest of his life.
he SHOULD contact Roger Barrett, with a formal letter of apologies. i think it would actually help heal R. Barrett.

Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow?

Actually, as it has been described time and time again, it was a unanimous desicion to leave Syd behind.

Roger not contacting the other Roger is simply a case of him respecting his wishes.

Of course he should, what a stinker that Waters fellow is. Who knows it may even inspire Syd to get back on stage and turn the clock back 35 years.

Sounds to me like you're blaming Waters for Barret's illfortune. I think that's unfair. I don't know about Waters' cruelty towards Barrett, but I know from personal experience how difficult it can be to deal with a schizophrenic person.

I spent seven years living with a schizophrenic guy, and I can tell you it was really hard at times. Sometimes it seemed as he was deliberately sabotaging everything I had worked for, like when he poured beer on the carpet, spit on the walls or put a plastic bag into the oven and turned the heat on. That was just to mention a few things he'ld do. Its not easy to be patient at all times, even though the person you're with has an excuse to be acting like a pain in the butt!

I think Barrett is a beautiful person, and I love him, but I understand the lyirc: " you wore out your welcome with random presicion.." Its tragic, but its also human to be unable to tolerate the schemes of a madman. It can be very exhausting.

I think they should have dealt with Barrett's illness differently back then. They should have protected him against the horde of girls that were after him, so he didn't have to lock himself in his room for days, and I think taking him on that US tour was a bad mistake. They didn't know what they were up against. Dealing with schizophrenia isn't easy.

No,,,, it was always rog who pushed it, with mason on board with it. Dave never decided that, in fact in an interview claimed it was rog who stated they should NOT pick up Syd that fateful day.

As for respecting the wishes... that's a very good long-lived strong wall of a bad excuse.

Not only sarcastic, ( which i picked up the 1st time thru) but insulting.
lemmee try! -- WOW! really? ya think? that would be soooooo coool! Thanx so much for givin me hope. U ROCK!!! U R THE Cheeziest!

even if any healing is on a scale that goes undetected by anyone else, it's worth a try. There is a Big door in syd's psyche, which opens to a room full of biting shrieking monsters. the door has a huge DO NOT ENTER sign in Neon. guilts, fears, lotsa spiky critters. If he did receive apologies from Rog, it might chase the big ones away. the sign might drop off. If he ever made it into this Living room which is much bigger than the closet he lives in, he could see that there are other doors with happier signs, and windows of light.
or maybe it might unfreeze some gears in his head which ground to a halt a while ago.

Waters WAS awfully cruel. ignorance is no excuse, especially taken his history. he absolutely helped syd's paranoia right along. probably saw an opening for himself.
And yes, they should have dealt with it differently, and maybe even avoided alot of it by protecting him not only from girls, but also from all the ACID he was unknowingly taking, slipped to him almost daily by idiots for years..
