What the hell does Dave know anyhow?

Regarding the visitation of band members with Syd, perhaps it is best that Syd just be left in peace to do what he does now: gardening, painting, reading, writing, etc. Maybe he doesn't want to relive his past....no one can. Even in individuals who aren't mentally ill, people evolve as their age. What Syd did over 30 years ago probably isn't of any interest to him today. I think it is probably some selfishness that makes us want to believe that he can be the way that he was: beautiful, brilliant, charismatic, etc. Time has stopped in our mind but not for him. I respect Dave for realizing that.

i never intended, expected, entertained any silly fantasies that Roger Barrett would ever slip back into his Syd persona ever again. i only originally wished to express that i think deep inside he's still embarrassed and ashamed about a few things, and still very hurt by the shoddy treatment he had received.

Wow.. what a read this thread was. Its amazing to think where all of you came up with this stuff.

First off.. BlondeonBlonde is not that far from the truth. And from what I've heard, David does not actually own the rights to Syd's songs. The actual tapes are probably the property of EMI.. and David has control over them.. but he does not own them. And the reason why they most likely are not released is because they would need Syd's permission.. and Syd ain't even thinking about it.

The other thing about Syd's finances. Its true he probably doesn't need the money, but he's not getting royalties anywhere near what the other band members are getting... afterall he's only on 2 PF albums.. which aren't even the big sellers, so I'm sure his family watches his finances pretty closely.
