| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? Why does Dave Gilmour feel he must protect the world from Syd songs such as 'Vegetable Man', 'Scream Thy Last Scream', 'Living Alone', Let's Roll Another One', 'Reaction In G', 'One In A Million' and 'She Was A Millionare'? I've heard all but 2 of them and there no worse than 'Jugband Blues'. I just don't get it. ![]() |

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? He will not let most of these songs be released. That's why they are not on an official Pink Floyd release. |

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? Are they Syd-with-the-Floyd songs or solo Syd songs Dave helped Syd produce? If the latter, they shouldn't be released as Pink Floyd songs - they're not - but definitely released as Syd solos.

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? In that case, we have to bow to David's better musical judgement. I certainly haven't spent the past several decades earning shedloads of wonga as a professional musician. Have you? ![]() Some of Syd's stuff is whimsical, even the product of tortured genius, but pretty raw for all that. Some, IMHO, should never have had the taped wasted on it. Still...I dunno. BTW, how or why does David have sole veto over whether Syd's stuff is released. What happened to the all mighty Roger?

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? David has sole control because no one else is interested, especially Roger. I don't know how much say Roger would really have in this kind of situation anyway. Most of those tapes are in David's possession, and will likely stay that way. I, too, would love to hear these songs, but like all bands, not every single scrap gets released. That's just the way it is. It would be very hard for him to convince the record company to release this material officially. It would only be of interest to diehard fans, which is not a significant enough market share to warrant release usually. Add to that the fact that many of these people most likely already have bootlegs of said tracks.

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? Well, like I said i've heard all but two of them. Actually I own all but two of them. As far as I know there is no copy of 'Living Alone' floating around. Same goes for 'She Was A Millionare'.(which supposedley is a remake of 'One in a Million'). I have seen many bootlegs in my day, but these songs I have not. |

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? I know, I wish they'd be released as well, but it ain't gonna happen. And, as I said in another Syd thread, many of the original masters of these songs are likely lost. Who knows what form they exist in if at all.

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? I can't imagine how Waters could've become so disinterested about Syd and his work. In an interview I read here, it mantioned how Waters hadn't talked to Syd in 10 years. The subsequent tone of the interview mentioned that he wasn't really thinking about Syd. But then he did after all release WYWH - which is in the memory of Syd. So I don't get it. These two were supposed to be great friends but they hardly know each other now?! Very strange don't you think???!

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? I think ole'Rog said something about not wanting to just show up one day. He thought it might make Syd think about the past and **** him up some more. I think he really has no say in Syd's work since, as stated before, Dave owns the tracks. By the way, I have never heard a Syd song that I thought should have never been released. |

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? Yes, that's true, but that's how Roger is. He's a dick. He hasn't spoken to David, Rick or Nick since 1987, so why would he have contact with Syd? If anything, it would be David still in contact with Syd, as he had a much closer relationship with him as time went on. (A few years back (1998 or 99), David had said that he speaks with Syd occasionally, but that he hadn't recently.) Who knows what the story is...

| Re: What the hell does Dave know anyhow? Seems strange to me either. Dave was always so supportive to Syd, and releasing those songs would deff. help Syd's bank account (and Dave's one too, as he was the producer, right ?). I heard two of the songs and I must say they are not worse (quality-wise) than anything from Syd's solo-work. Prolly now, as PF seems to be over, they all must sit together and think what out-takes they need to release Would be great idea innit.
