"Brain Damage" on Live at Pompeii

First of all, yes there are many Live at Pompeii threads, but none refer to "Brain Damage". I was wondering why Dave's guitar recording is not on DSOTM? They show nothing but him playing the riff, and then dont even put it in on the album!!! It really sounded great, in my opinion, and now whenever I listen to the main song, I feel as if I'm missing out on something. Are there any other recordings of "Brain Damage" with him playing those riffs?

I can relate. I was always partial to that little riff too.

Dave may have played it occasionally on live performances.

The overdubs shown in Pompeii were done AFTER most of the album was done. However there is a rough mix circulating among bootleggers which has the lead guitar all through the song, from "the lunatic is in my head" into "Eclipse" and actually continuing over the heartbeat fadeout. Unfortunately the sound quality isn't supremely good.

I'd always sort of thought that the Pompeii DSOTM footage was staged - that the recording was essentially done, but they thought that footage of them playing their instruments would be a little more exciting than all of them sitting around a mixing board.

I have no proof to back this up, of course... just the observation that the playback (minus "On The Run") sound really complete, without the overdubs.
