Why is it always Zeppelin vs. Floyd?

I personally like Led Zeppelin more, they are in fact my favorite band by far, but Pink Floyd is in close second. I am just curious on why it's always Zeppelin vs. Floyd?

Because the two were such icons in not just rock but music itself. People just like to challenge great things, like coke and pepsi

but i personally dig on floyd more their wasd more of a message in their music.....Zeps in like a close 2nd i love how poetic some of their shit was and how hypnotic Jimmy PAge was

well i like pink floyd better and i think the reason is (the reason they're compared) that they are both the predominant classic rock bands in that when someone says classic rock PF and LZ are both associated with it.

It's not always Zepplin vs. Floyd... Sometimes it's ice cream vs. cake in which case I choose both.

I think its cause they are both such icons in rock history.
They both have amazing lyrical talent.
They both have amazing insturmental talent.(although I think Zeppelin is better on that one.... John Bonham the greatest drummer ever by far, Jimmy Page one of the greatest guitarists ever, John Paul Joans a very acceptional bassist and great on keyboards, Robert Plant has more energy and stage presence than most frontmen.)
I could also go on and on about Floyd though.

It's also cause there're are very few bands that are in that leuge of talent and music.
There are no bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and few others, today.
Im not sure if there will ever be any bands like them again.
All the amazing music is not being created anymore.
It's all in the past.
Think about it.

Actually I usually find that it's The Who vs Led Zeppelin (of which we have a very large thread dedicated). But of course, The Who are better. Then again, Pink Floyd dominates them both.

I really enjoy Pink Floyd and Zeppelin.. but to me the bigger contest is between "The Starland Vocal Band" vs "Jim Stafford"..

I also most commonly associate Led Zeppelin with The Who. For some reason I look at the Floyd in relation to the Doors as far as similar bands I do and do not like commonly paired together (at least in my mind, probably something to do with the contrasting organ styles).

I don't know about this supposed Zep vs Floyd thing, I just know that whenever I tried to listen to Led Zeppelin, I didn't manage to like much of their stuff. I'm not trying anymore.

The only place I've seen Floyd vs. Zeppelin comparisons is on this site.

Most people consider Pink Floyd "classic rock" just because they're from the same era but I consider Pink Floyd in a whole different category than bands like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, or The Who.
