Re: Jimmy Page's violin bow technique.

When I first saw "The Song Remains the Same" and saw the bow thing, I picked up a drumstick and tried it like that. I had fun for atleast 5 minutes.

Re: Jimmy Page's violin bow technique.

I watched The Song Remains The Same for the first time last night. I thought it was ****ing dreadful. Page must have been just in the clutches of heroine at the time or something. Now, comparatively, I watched the first performance in 1970 on How the West Was Won, and he was fantastic...and hopefully sober.

I don't know his name, but a guy from The Creation was the first to do the bow technique. Jimmy Page used to be a studio session man (he's worked with The Who, Kinks, Pretty Things, Creation, Donovan, as a session man) and he picked it up from them. Syd Never used a bow on a guitar, but he used a zippo lighter which produced entirely different results.

Re: Jimmy Page's violin bow technique.

I like the scene in Spinal Tap where the guitarist uses a violin (not the bow) on his guitar. Cracks me up!

Re: Jimmy Page's violin bow technique.

I find it even more hilarious that he has to retune the violin...
