Angry Something that makes me mad.

Something that ticks me off is when someone says that they love a band and know a lot about them.
But really they only know of the single the band realesed.
This happens with Floyd frequently, people will say that they "love" PF but really the only song they know is Another Brick In The Wall (part 2).
If you showed them any other song to them they would say that it sucks and would not know who it is.

Has anyone ever noticed this before?

If so what songs....?

Some people do say the names of bands just to sound cool, but you can't discredit someones love for a band by their lack of vast knowledge of the band's history.

I've used this example before, but I love the Clash. I only have one Clash album (London Calling). I have never heard their other CDs, I don't even know all of them's names, but I have a Clash t-shirt, and i LOVE the Clash. So am I not a real fan?

It makes me more upset when people who think they are the "true fans" insult the "fake fans" because they can't quote the entire discography.

I know what your talking about.
I respect people like you with The Clash but it's mailny people who only 1 or 2 songs, no albums, and say there big fans.
And it could be just to look cool also.

yeah, people being critical is pretty big mainly with punk bands, but also i've noticed a HUGE influx of people who automatically understand Radiohead more than anyone else (it doesnt matter who you are)
i think we all do it. i used to feel that way but i just have to give myself a different mind set, now i just want to tell the peopleverything i know about the band, and i'm usually pretty annoying.
anyways..yeah i know what you mean. People who do that kind of thing normally travel in groups so when ever they try to show off with whatever knowledge they learned about DsotM (:GASP: it syncs with THE WIZARD OF OZ! :GASP just bring up something about Ummagumma or Atom Heart Mother heheh.

I don't care if people know the band intimately or not, if they like the Big Hits then I can that's one more thing I can comfortably listen to with them around.

Does it make anyone here mad, when your talking about a band's new album, and someone says to you, "Their new stuff sucks their old stuff is better."

I see what you mean, but I'll admit I can be like that. I don't appreciate it when people try to convince me they're bigger NIN fans than me, for example, when they haven't even heard of "Further Down The Spiral" or something stupid like that.
