When the instrumental "A Saucerful of Secrets" was performed live, it was broken down into parts. The last part, called 'Celestial Voices' featured some vocals by Dave, which I can't get enough of. There were no words, just "Whooooaaaa, oohhh" and such, but the desperation in his voice expresses the entire mood of the end (which was about the mourning of the dead lost in war; the track was about a battle or war). Especially the versions on "Ummagumma" and "At Pompeii". His vocals really reflect what 'Celestial Voices' is about.
"Whooooooaaaaaaa, ohhhhhhhhhhh, whoa-whoa-ohhhhhhhhhhhh.........."

yeah i like that part too. i remember someone on this forum once called it the "tone deaf dave bit" but i think he does a good job. i heard a live version before i bought the studio version and was disappointed when the album didn't have the singing part.

hell bells mate i cant get enough of it.

i brought ummagumma not long ago on LP and all i ever seem to be listening to is a saucerful of secrets, i know there is lots of good music on this record but that one song gets me everytime, it is so worth listening to that song just to hear that part, the drumming in that part is brillient as well, i am very proud of the band just from that one song, it shows how great they are at improvisation and at song writting etc... i love this song, good on ya for bringing this topic up

Thanks B17! I also think that the end of SOS can fit any emotion: sadness, desperation, even joy and victory. Great emotional impact!

I really like SOS a lot, too. I didn't know the studio version didn't have the singing part, that's my favorite part in the whole song. b17, I also catch myself listening to SOS a lot, just a great song.
