Joey, I concur with Gerald's statements, my real problem with the poem was I had no real idea why some of the lines were there.

Take a creative writing class, if you have a good teacher she will really help you form your free writing into something cohesive that works. Try writing your poem as prose first, then working out the line breaks, that sometimes works for me. Also, try going to a writer's workshop, libraries and learning annexes usually hold them, often at a price but sometimes for free.
