A Squirrel and a Crow by Happenstance in the Same Tree on Successive Walks

By:

Maurice J. Irvin

Yesterday, I saw a squirrel;
He was dangling from a tree.
And try to hang on as he might,
The Wind still pulled him free.

Today, though I saw in my path
The same tree from yesterday,
There now sat atop it a crow,
Which the Wind could not sway.

I wept then and there,
Despite that marvelous tree,
For I realized the squirrel was what I was
But the crow, what I could be.

To avoid repeating anyone else, I will say that it is inspiring and beautiful. My hat is off to you, Ikky.
