Actually, there's plenty of room for debate - this thread is devoted to it. And I sincerely doubt that anyone told you to shut up.

Fascism? Paulo has run this board for about ten years. The moderators come and go, but all work just for the masochistic satisfaction; there are no financial rewards. There are often more than a hundred simultaneous users, and that kind of bandwidth is not cheap. You are perfectly free to join any board that suits your taste, or start your own, but it's fascism if this board won't change its rules to suit you?

OK, that post was a bit offensive, but I am only getting defensive due to some members intolerance.

eg Why was that DSOTM poll locked? It was getting some votes, would have given people something to talk about, if the old guard wasn't interested, then they could see what if was without investigating and if enough people got bored with it, it would just slide down the list. The guy who started it (although a bit naive in coming on here and starting threads willy nilly) seemed like an enthusiastic fan, he hasn't been around since, obviously got scared off by a wall of indifference. A few well meaning pms could have got him to become an assett to the board maybe, instead another person falls by the wayside.

Is that what people want?

WIth a band that hasn't done anything much over the last ten years you have to expect some duplication, but the courting and educating of a new fan is something which is what this board could excel at.

It's literally a topic that's been done to death and stands as a perfect example of the benefits of taking the time to read the Forum Guidelines & Rules of Conduct prior to posting whilst also liberally employing the feature, especially if the member (new or otherwise) happens to be unfamiliar with the content of the rest of the site.

It's probably worth pointing out that the member who instigated the aforementioned thread was also exceedingly insulting from that word go and despite being asked by other Moderators to tone it down, paid no heed and was subsequently banned and the offensive posts were deleted.

I don't really agree with banning people and it's something that I very rarely do but I'm afraid that, in this case, I had no option.

How prudent of you to assume how the mods on this website do or don't run it. Once again, congratulations.

Also, I would recommend that you refrain from sentences like this

not only will you get on the bad side of the mods, but I doubt the rest of the users, new or old, will tolerate you much.

I am not trying to annoy anyone, I just feel the old guard are creating a stiffling atmosphere that doesn't encourage new people to try and contribute.

I am not on about changing rules just being more welcoming and accepting that new people need a chance to learn. Did you not make some faux pas when you started? (Sorry I should have searched).

Otherwise it may be just as easy to lock the boards and just have them as a learning resource for people to gain knowledge of Pink Floyd. That would save the bandwidth.
