Question Vocals Dogs (Live)

Today I downloaded a live version of Dogs. After what I heard Dave sang lead on the six first verses and Rog sang lead only on the last verse. Does anyone know if there was vocalist changes on other songs before Roger left?

Re: Vocals Dogs (Live)

Erm... d'you mean from what they were on the albums? Well, Dave sung all of Syd's parts obviously. There's a weird little duet-type thing on "Embryo" where Dave sings the first line, then Rick sings the next line while Dave takes the harmony part. Doesn't always work because Rick's microphone is turned way down.

This isn't the only example obviously... I'm sure they swapped on the vocals here and there when things got too awkward to sing onstage. There's a recording of "Us And Them" where Roger sings lead during the verse and harmony in the chorus! But in most cases, Dave took the lion's share of lead vocals until the WYWH days.

Don't forget "Run Like Hell" on ITAOT, where Dave sings one line and Roger does the next.

I hate Guy Pratt, one of the reasons i'm not too fond of PULSE.

Yeah, I'm not fond of that guy, but then again, SOMEBODY had to fill in for Waters.

I would have rather seen Sting.

Or even Adam Clayton.

Geddy Lee? Hahaha....

Let's face it, the average garage band bass player could fill in on roger's parts. Even the "hottest" bass licks were performed by Dave.

How roger could not handle the beggining of "One of These Days" I'll never know.

I still think you're great Rog.....in a sick, demented, dillusional sort of way.

Oh, you can be kinder than that... Roger has a tremendous ego, and seems to dismiss people who don't agree with him in every particular as idiots, but as a writer/lyricist he's impressive.

Agreed.

Wasn't commenting on his writing ability at all....just him as a "bassist".

I think his lyrics from that time period are really second to none.

Although his latest stuff, is a little to far out there for my tastes.

Cheers Rog and Rob!

Re: Vocals Dogs (Live)

Roger's bass playing may have been limited but it was RIGHT for the Floyd. He had a very aggressive attack which locked in with Nick's laid-back feel perfectly. Listen to bootlegs of concerts from the early 70's... the grooves are TIGHT and the band is smokin'. Prat's bass playing is slick as hell, but he just bogs Nick down and everything becomes, well, too dry and crisp and lifeless. Plus he sings with an accent and comes off as... how shall I put this... yappy. Bleugh.

Hate to say it, but he plays a better bass than Roger.

And it may be a matter of taste but I prefer the Pulse 'Run Like to Hell' to The Wall version. Dave and Guy handle the vocals very well.

I prefer ITAOT over the entire studio Wall album, and Run Like Hell on PULSE and ITAOT is done the same way.
