"Poles Apart" This is the one that can really be compared to the Book of Job, in which the devil taunts Job.

Did you know...it was all going to go
So wrong for you?
And did you see...it was all going to be your destiny?
Why did I tell you then
You were always at childhood's end
Why can't you ever lose that light in your eyes?

Hey boy...did you ever realize where time had gone?
And did you see that it wasn't only me you were running from?
Did you know all the time that it was always here to stay,
Struggling with the blind while the steel fell away from your eyes.

A hush fell slow
Down on all the crowds of mortality
You thought of them, and the years and all the sadness grew and tackled you.
Why won't you ever lose that light in your eyes?

What inspired you to do that?

It doesn't quite make sense like that...the first verse is about Syd Barret, and the fact is that he DID loose the light in his eyes.

A few other issues too but I wouldn't want to start a flame war

You know that's the good thing about alternate lyrics, you can change the whole meaning of the song, write anything you want, just set to the original tune... Now I don't mean that in a saracstic sense.

I admit they were feverishly written, and they're not anywhere near as good as if I had actually taken my time...

Yeah sorry I didn't read the other post or the bit at the start of this, just launched into the lyric themselves thinking "this guy thinks he can do better than big Dave".

Of course some would say it's not hard to do better than big Dave...which was partially why I was so interested in seeing someone finally try to demonstrate that.

compared to Waters they are rather shabby, but for mere mortals like you and me I don't think they are too bad.

you think after all this time he could write some better stuff on his own. isn't it funny how dave needs help on words but roger is good at them and roger needs help on music but dave can do that fine by himself.

fictitious sports doesn't stand the chance of selling 100 copies. most were given away in contests.
