Re: Astronomy Domine

Yeah this is a good song but I have a stupid question

What's the right way to pronounce it? I assume it's 'Astronomy Dom-in-ee' so the two words rhyme, but it could also be 'Astronomy Doh-mine'

Re: Astronomy Domine

It's 'Astronomy Dominé'. I've listened to some bootlegs and that's how Roger pronounces it when he introduces the song. Plus, the original back cover of the LP had the accent on the 'e', if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Astronomy Domine

Yes, the original did have an accent on the "e."

"Astronomy Domine" is basically the "Magical Mystery Tour" of Pink Floyd. It is a beautifully-composed piece of work (lyrically & musically), stretching the boundaries for all future Floyd opuses to come!!

My favorite live version is from a bootleg...the one where Roger introduces by saying: "Good morning...this is called Astronomy Domine"...and then the magic happens!!!!

Do you know the date of the concert?

Re: Astronomy Domine

I believe this was recorded around the same time they recorded the live disc for Ummagumma. It sounds like late '68 early '69. Gilmour's guitar solo for this particular recording is EXTREMELY intense!! I like it better than the Ummagumma live version.

I believe that's actually from the Montreux Casino, 21 November 1970.

Definitions:

Astronomy - The scientific study of matter in outer space, especially the positions, dimensions, distribution, motion, composition, energy, and evolution of celestial bodies and phenomena.

Domine - A name given to a pastor of the Reformed Church. The word is also applied locally in the United States, in colloquial speech, to any clergyman.

This is a nice one:

EDIT: The start of the the interview is hilarious.
But it's a little bit sad to watch Syd. He seemed to be in good shape in this interview.

Isn't astronomy dominated?
