Household objects

In 1973 a few months after DSOTM was released PF started working on an album called household objects. However, they never finished it and only recorded 3 songs. Does anyone know if these songs are actually available to listen to?

Re: Household objects

All I know is this album later became WYWH, and apparantly they used some ''household objects'' on there.

Re: Household objects

"Almost everything we've ever recorded in a studio has been extracted by someone at some point and subsequently bootlegged. However, no such recordings exist of the 'Household Objects' tapes for the simple reason that we never managed to produce any actual music. All the time we devoted to the project was spent exploring the non-musical sounds, and the most we ever achieved was a small number of tentative rhythm tracks." -Nick Mason, Inside Out

They used some singing-wineglass noises as part of the drone at the beginning of SOYCD. That's all that's ever been released.

Re: Household objects

Seems to me like the whole thing was a little too ambitious anyway.

It's a pretty good idea, but I guess the technical limitations of the time got in the way. Nowadays you could just do it all with samplers and it'd be easy.

No it really was not a good idea. I've always found it amazing that a band could come off such a peak like "Dark Side" and then actually think an idea like "Household Objects" would sound good, nonetheless even sell which leads me to believe it was meant to be cynical(??). I honestly think had they been able to do it, it would have been an embarassment and would have killed the band.
When WYWH came out, the sales compared to it were still being overshadowed by Dark Side--Household Objects would have sold poorly.

Re: Household objects

Maybe when they're reborn as a studio unit they can try again.

Re: Household objects

The anti post-Waters camp would crow "See?! They've run out of ideas!"
Yet it was a good idea in 74? It was a good idea because Roger would have wrote the lyrics? Bollocks.

Re: Household objects

If the songs are strong enough, it doesn't matter what the backing tracks sound like. Tom Waits frequently sounds like he's being accompanied by a barnload of malfunctioning tractor parts, and it seems to work okay for him.

If they had released the album, I would have bought it.

Good point but I'd also have to think banging stuff together and playing with rubber bands is MUSIC.

This idea is as awful as that "Unfinished Music" sound collage crap that John and Yoko actually released.
