Pompeii Footage

I tried searching for this one to no avail.

I know the actual stuff from Pompeii (i.e.: Saucerful, Echoes, etc.) was done in October of 1971. I was wondering, though, when the rest of the stuff was shot. For instance, the stuff they did in Paris (i.e.: Set The Controls, CWTAE, etc.), the black and white interviews, the recording of DSOTM, etc.

I know the recording of DSOTM would've been late 72 or early 73, but I'm looking for more concrete answers. Specifically, I want to know when the songs done in Paris were shot.

Re: Pompeii Footage

The shoot in Paris took place in the spring of 1972. Footage of Abbey Road studios was filmed in early 1973 and added to the second, wide-release theatrical cut which was available on home video for ages and ages. Then, the new "director's cut" stuff (including outtakes from the Paris recording sessions, more recent shots of the Abbey Road exterior, and the computer-generated stuff) was added in 2002.

That would make it the last footage before they "went glacial" to use Fricke's expression.

Pompeii is a blast. Hooked up to a decent bass amp, Echoes part 1 is the shit. My favourite scene / music is when the camera dollys around behind the speakers to reveal the

PINK FLOYD
LONDON

stencils on the back. Oh to have a time machine to go back and stowaway into the ampitheatre. To sit up the back of the rim and just feel those watts pumpin' out through the stratosphere. A nice fat spliff to set the travellin' vibe. Outta sight!

Buy it, dude. You won't regret it.

That really is a good scene! and you have no idea how very much I regret that I did not know back then when I was in Pompeii the PF were there. I would appreciated it far more.

Re: Pompeii Footage

that NIck's apple pie thing i so funny, when you watch it couple times...

i just came from NYC, where i bought DVD "The director's cut" (well that's only dvd)
for just 10 dollars (completely new)...and the GREAT thing that there are both movies there - teh original one, the one i have on tape, and that director's (it's a double layer dvd)

i was afraid it's not going to work here in europe, as all those folks who work in Tower Records told me, but it works! (on computer dvds of course)

get it at Amazon.com...10.45 used. I picked mine up for that price, it was shrinkwrapped. Works fine, booklet is in it. AMAZING footage. The directors cut is cool cuz they show a lot of footage and they have extras. The only thing I dislike about it is that they have these really stupid parts between songs have some 3d images of the moon and the solar system. But TOTALLY worth it.
