Live Albums: Roger Solo vs post-Roger Floyd

I haven't seen a poll like this before I'd start one. Floyd flogged Roger with ticket sales when they were touring at the same time but how to the live albums go against eachother? 2 each by my count so we're on equal footing.

To me Roger's In The Flesh Live album is streets better than any of PULSE or Delicate Sound. What a surprise the version of "Set The Controls" was too, much better than the (crap) version of "Astronomy Domine" from PULSE.

There are some highlights on Gilmour's side though, the versions of "One Of These Days" and "Time" from Delicate Sound are awesome.

Instead of individual albums I thought it would be better to pick a side, because album vs album polls have been done a fair bit.

I listen to Gilmour's live shows for historical interest. I listen to Roger's live shows for pleasure.

He does have some pretty hot backup singers.

I enjoy the Pulse, In the Flesh and Gilmour Live DVD's/cd's quite equally... Never been big on Delicate Sound (although the title itself has my vote for neatness!!) There are bits of all I like more than others, and also bits I dislike about all....... I kind of have to mentally meld them all together to make a full concept of "Pink Floyd" though.

Ok, how about this.... I vote for Live @ KQED!!!

Re: Live Albums: Roger Solo vs post-Roger Floyd

I like them all..

I listen to DB just as much as I listen to Amused to Death or the Pros and Cons..

Id have to say though out of all the shows to come out on DVD, Rogers In the Flesh is by far the greatest. Coming from a musical standpoint, that is.

Daves live DVD is awesome, but is missing the 'band' feel. Missing the feel that the sogns he played needed. Good work though Dave.

Surprised at the response here....to me Rog's In The Flesh is clearly better than the other live albums.

Re: Live Albums: Roger Solo vs post-Roger Floyd

On Pulse I like all the songs, but it's only a few of them (Astronomy Domine, Comfortably Numb, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and the guitar solo on Sorrow) which is really exciting.

In The Flesh has lots of great versions of songs (Dogs, Perfect Sense, Each Small Candle, Mother, Set The Controls, The Bravery of Being Out Of Range, Pigs On The Wings), but also a few I can't stand (Shine On You Crazy Diamond is completely destroyed by Doyle's guitar solo, and his vocals on Breathe and Comfortably Numb and Roger's vocals on Time is awful.)

Delicate Sound Of Thunder has a great version of Comfortably Numb, but it can't compete with the other two.

For the moment I will go for In The Flesh, but that will maybe change when the Pulse DVD is available.

Re: Live Albums: Roger Solo vs post-Roger Floyd

Dave's Floyd had hot backup singers too. Look at Rachel Fury.

I love disc two on ITF. The Dark side stuff is awful and Comfortably Numb is horrendous. His solo stuff is amazing though. I saw him on that tour. Incredible.

The Floyd Live albums are great. DSoT is kind of sterile but still good. Pulse with the live Darkside is great.

I love Rogers album but I connect with Floyd more. I liked AMLoR and TDB would both good IMHO. Pros and cons is good, KAOS sucked, and ATD is genuis.

Brilliant!

Still like Floyd live stuff better.

Rachel Furry is hot, but Katie Kissoon is in her own class. You have to look at her and to listen to her fantastic voice when she sings the lead vocal on Mother...

I need to buy that DVD then. I still like Rachel on "Great Gig" though.

Re: Live Albums: Roger Solo vs post-Roger Floyd

Would it be correct that Jon Carin appears in ITF, DSoT and Pulse?

If Pulse actually included a version of Richard singing "Wearing The Inside Out" then it would have been much better. Did Rick actually perform it on that tour?

I think over the tour they did the entire TDB album. I think my dad has a live versions of "Lost for Words", "Marooned", and everything else not on Pulse..
