MOD edited: Please keep your posts limited to only one, not multiple posts on the same subject. "Dark Side of the Moon" is a study of how the pressures of society can lead to madness and isolation. The "Speak to Me" intro, is the foreshadowing of the entire album. The ch-ching! of the cash register, the tick-tick-ticking of the clocks, the laughter--they all provide the mood for the album. "Breathe" can be about two things--if we're concentrating on a character (which I prefer to follow), rather than insanity as a whole. 1.) This, plus the heartbeat from "Speak to Me," symbolizes the man's birth, and the promise that he will "race towards an early grave", a result of 2.) Overworking himself to isolation and early death. "On the Run" symbolizes travel (its original title), and the never-ending struggle of moving from place to place. Also, the running footsteps and mocking laughter can resemble a sense of paranoia beginning to develop within the man's psyche. "Time"'s meaning is, to put it in brief terms, the sheer pain of knowing we can't control time, there is never enough, and our lives seem to revolve around time and its tyrannic presence. The reprise of "Breathe" is about the central character's increasing dependence on isolation from his worries. Some lyrics also reflect Roger Waters' (principle lyricist) belief that organized structures of power (like certain church factions) can also be a great pressure. _________________ A brave man once requested me, to answer questions that are key. "Is it to be or not to be?" And I replied, "Oh, why I ask me?"

"Money," widely acclaimed as the album's centerpiece, expresses the truly unending struggle to provide money to survive. It can also express the fact that certain excesses can lead to a mental decline.

(TO OYSTER: No problem, fella! I LOVE discussing my favorite album of all-time! )"Us and Them"--originally concepted as "The Violent Sequence" from a Pink Floyd soundtrack gig, "Zabriskie Point" (but rejected by the film's director Michaelangelo Antonioni). This brilliant song's tone, its lyrics, all are a perfect match, using battle as a metaphor for the power and success struggles among men, leading to the central character's eventual break from the rest of the world.

MOD edited: same thing, please keep your posts limited to ONE per topic. "The Great Gig in the Sky" reflects the constant pressure of the fear of dying--or losing anything or anyone. In "Any Color You Like," the man breaks off all ties with the world, and makes one of his own. But it leads to his mental deterioration, resulting in mental hospitalization. "Brain Damage"--the character's choice (or he is forced) to check into a mental hospital. However, his paranoia leads him to become violent ("the lunatics are in MY hall..."), leading to a zombie-inducing lobotomy ("you raise the blade, you make the change..."). "Eclipse"'s lyrics are self-explanatory: Because of his mental decline and lobotomy, the man knows nothing, has lost the knowledge of all he loves--"Everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."
