The Wall???

I'm having troble understanding the whole concept of the wall. I've heard different things about it like it was based on Roger Waters's life, it's about a crazy guy named Pink, and a little of both. Would I understand it better if I saw the movie but i heard the movie is very frightning and i'm only 13. Should I watch it???
