| Re: desperately need Info for DSOTM Microphones used for recording I'm pretty sure they used Neumann U87's for lots of the recording, those were quite standard for the time and place. Not really sure about much else in terms of mics, maybe you could dig through some of Alan Parsons' old interviews. Perhaps a Neumann KM84 on the snare drum... but that's just my guess, based on its sound. And Sennheiser 421s on the tom-toms? Who knows? The album was recorded and mixed on Abbey Road Studio Three's 16-track EMI TG12345 MkIV desk with TG12428 preamps, although I've also heard an MCI440 was used (possibly for tracking in Studio Two). The drums and bass were recorded without any noise reduction but they were bounced down to a second-generation stereo pair with Dolby A. This was all on 4" Ampex tape running at 15 IPS as I understand. If you're interested in how the Quadrophonic mix was done in 1973, Alan Parsons wrote a whole essay on it here. |
