I was wondering if anyone actually has a full version of this. Every one I have heard edits the 'Work' part of 'Work and Afternoon'. It always starts with that blasted whistle blowing. By the way, tremendous show. I only know of one copy. They performed it quite a few times, but as far as I know only one was recorded. For radio too. I would like to hear your thoughts on this show.

i have the full 80 min. version from amsterdam and its wonderful. before i got this i thought work and afternoon were the same songs but they were different. it also has the tea break which is quite tedious. i had heard they listened to the radio during this but there is no radio in this show. also no announcer during sleep. i heard the edited version first and was pleasantly surprised after hearing the full one. get it if you can.

i have it, at least i think i do (the full version) how do you tell? theres a whistle that blows after grandchester meadows, and a radio announcer during some part; someone had mentioned these things earlier. if you want it, ill trade with you. i had the show on tape, then ripped it to my computer, put it through 2 different programs to reduce noise and to edit out some unneeded quiet (not part of the show), and to add tracks to the waveform so when i burned it, i could go to specific songs, instead of having 1 big assed song. lemme know
email me at wbdotcom@yahoo.com
thanks
adam

If the whistle blows after Grantchester Meadows then it is not the full length vesion. Work and the tea break are cut out.

Does anyone else think this show is phenominal? This is a jaw dropping performance, especially the Journey. It changed my paradigm on pre- Dark Side stuff. Are there any other notable post Syd, pre-Dark Side shows worth listening to? And if there is, where can I get it?

Yes, I do. It's a shame we haven't an official live recording.

I've always felt that in a live environment the Floyd were at the top of their game during 1970. I heartily recommend these shows :

Hamburg Audimax, March 12th 1970

The Electric Factory, September 26th 1970

Montreux Casino, September 26/27 1970

Also the Golden Hall, San Diego show of October 17th 1971 is worth checking out.

Enjoy!

Re: The Man and The Journey

Also please experience: 1970 04 29 Fillmore West, San Francisco;
1970 07 16 Paris Cinema, Lower Regent Street, London, England;
1971 09 30 Paris Cinema, Lower Regent Street, London, England;
Oh yeah, and the speed corrected version of 1970 10 17 Pepperland Auditorium, San Rafael;
And many others, to be sure......

Re: The Man and The Journey

I have just bought The Man and The Journey "FM stereo broadcast from Concertgebouw Amsterdam 17 September 1969" Version although I'm not sure this is the right date. Good quality bootleg though! Shame about the dutch DJ waffling over some of the tracks though

Re: The Man and The Journey

I have the show but i dont really like it. It seems like it was more of a thing that needed to be experienced visually as well. Tea Time and Sleep almost put me to Sleep and Doing It is quite boring as well, though I quite like Work. There's also much better versions of Cymbaline (Nightmare) around. The 2nd set is far better than the 1st. The live version of The Narrow Way is very good and I like the way it ends with Celestial Voices. But although it's an innovative idea, sawing wood, serving tea, sleeping on stage, etc, those things involve more than just audio.

muppotmup, you should never buy a bootleg. they are all available freely on the echoes hub.

Are they? I didn't know this! I like having the bootleg cd cover in my Pink Floyd collection so I can gawp at it along with all my PF and Dylan cds which sit neatly next to each other

Re: The Man and The Journey

Well you can download and print out the cover art too. Don't ever buy a bootleg because the band won't ever see a cent and all your doing is helping swindlers.

Put away your wallet. That's all you'll need.
