How do they achieve that sound?

The Piper at the Gates of dawn is a great record, we all know this.

Who has information on Barretts amp, effects, guitars etc...
What was he playing in the year 67'
What did the Floyd boys record onto and get their sound.

Come out and play...

Judas.

Re: How do they achieve that sound?

Syd: Fender Esquire, Selmer amplifier (2x12", I think), Binson Echorec... and possibly some type of fuzz/distortion. He played a Danelectro electric too, but I don't know specifics.

Roger: Rickenbacker 4000 series bass. Amp? Probably a Vox model (I see a Vox in the picture on the last page of the Piper booklet, along with Syd's Selmer amp.)

Rick: Farfisa Compact Duo, probably into a regular amplifier.

Nick: Premier drums... I can't remember if he was using double bass drums by Piper.

The equipment that the Floyd recorded onto for Piper was largely identical to what the Beatles were using for Sgt. Pepper's around the same time (it was the same studio, after all - Abbey Road). Studer 4-track tape machines, EMI-made mixers, Nuemann and AKG condenser microphones... along with all of the studio goodies (compression, limiting, echo plates, ADT, etc.)

Might be a bit confusing.
