The tracklist was compiled in October 2000, and people signed up for it then, but initial copies were distributed by snailmail and most people only got theirs early in 2001.

Re: A Tree Full of Secrets

This bootleg just appeared on the site I get my ROIOs from. Can someone tell me if it's worth downloading all 18 CDs. Is this just a compilation of individual ROIOs?

Re: A Tree Full of Secrets

It's a collection of outakes, demos, rare solo stuff, rare soundtrack stuff, here's an extract from the accompanying .nfo file :

A TREE FULL OF SECRETS :A Tree Full of Secrets
the definitive Pink Floyd rarities compilation

Introduction

On 18 CDs (yes, eighteen!) you'll find all the A and B sides of all the Pink
Floyd singles, all the promo, edited, obscured, or remixed versions, and all the
soundtracks bits of your favorite Pink Floyd and solo tracks.
Basically, this collection includes (nearly) all songs officially released, but
not on regular album (compilations, singles, promos, soundtracks...), as well as
rare versions from acetates and studio outtakes. We didn't consider live tracks
(concerts, radio or TV appearances), unless they're part of a single or a promo
single. We also left out of this scope the Syd Barrett solo rarities, because it
mainly consists in slightly different mixes of regular versions (we'd like to
let a more hardcore fan than we are, doing the job). Some other things are not
included, mainly because they could be treed separately, as a whole entity:
"Live At Pompeii" and "The Wall" soundtracks, mono editions of albums ("The
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", "A Saucerful Of Secrets"), quadraphonic editions of
albums ("Atom Heart Mother", "The Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were
Here")...
There are in fact 17 audio CDs and one data CD. This latter CD contains all the
artworks and booklets (with all you ever dreamt to know about each track of each
CD!), and some bonus files (that we hope you'll enjoy) while keeping the secret
about their contents.
We tried to make the most definitive Pink Floyd rarities compilation, in both
completeness and sound quality. For each track, we tried to find the best
sounding version available. As a result, we're proud to say that a lot of tracks
sound better than any other version available elsewhere.

Rules
What we mean with the word "rarity":
1) Song officially released, but not on regular albums (compilations, singles,
soundtracks...) [1]
2) Alternate mix (acetate...)
3) Outtake from unreleased studio session
4) Demo
[1] with an exception for the stuff being a part of a whole "entity"
(most of them are available separately, as other projects).
For instance, the following stuff is not included:
- "Live At Pompeii" soundtrack
- "The Wall" soundtrack
- mono "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", "A Saucerful Of Secrets"
- quadraphonic "Atom Heart Mother", "Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were
Here"
- "Delicate Sound Of Thunder" video
- "P*U*L*S*E" video
"Chronological" rules for tracklist:
1) tracks are sorted by recording date, not release date [2]
2) different versions of the same track with same recording date are sorted by
release date [3]
3) singles from the same album are listed in the same order than on the album
[4]
[2] with an exception for the demos, placed before the actual release, to save
"continuity" and to hear how the song evolved from the demo to the released
version.
[3] if the release date is the same or unknown, the versions are sorted from the
most "usual" to the most "unusual": single version -> extended version -> promo
version
[4] unless the recording dates are known with precision for each track (in this
case, see rule nr.1)
Contents

There are in fact 17 audio CDs and 1 data CD. This latter CD contains all the
artworks and booklets, and some bonus files.
Now, how are all these tracks organized into 17 audio CDs?
The first 8 CDs contain the Pink Floyd rarities (from 1965 to 1994).
The next 6 CDs contain the soundtracks (from Pink Floyd and members).
The last 3 CDs contain the solo members rarities.
The 17 CDs are split into 9 volumes (each volume is a 2 CD set, except volume 9,
which is a single CD). So, there are 9 different artworks, and the whole
Rarities compilation will take the place of 9 jewel boxes in your CD collection.
Volume 1 (CD1 - CD2): Pink Floyd Rarities 1965 - 1968
All the available versions of the "early singles" (mono, fake stereo, stereo,
acetate, promo edit), rare studio outtakes ("Let's Roll Another One", 1967 Abbey
Road studio sessions...), superb versions of the unreleased "Scream Thy Last
Scream"/"Vegetable Man" single, rare promo versions of "Remember A Day", "Let
There Be More Light" and "Corporal Clegg".
Volume 2 (CD3 - CD4): Pink Floyd Rarities 1969 - 1973
Songs from "Ummagumma" era, "Moonhead", rare Italian single "In Concerto", "One
Of These Days" demos, "One Of These Days"/"Fearless" promo single, Roger The Hat
interview and a whole CD (CD4) dedicated to the "Dark Side Of The Moon" rarities
(single versions, promo edits, rough mixes, demos, outtakes), compiled in the
same order as the album (from "Breathe" to "Eclipse").
Volume 3 (CD5 - CD6): Pink Floyd Rarities 1974 - 1983
Rarities from "Wish You Were Here" era (mainly "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", 7
different versions!), "Animals", "The Wall", "The Final Cut", without forgetting
the 1981 version of "Money" and "When The Tigers Broke Free"/"Bring The Boys
Back Home" single.
Volume 4 (CD7 - CD8): Pink Floyd Rarities 1987 - 1994
All the post-Waters Pink Floyd rarities: singles and promo CDs from "A Momentary
Lapse Of Reason", "The Division Bell" and "P*U*L*S*E".
Volume 5 (CD9 - CD10): Soundtracks 1966 - 1969
Soundtrack from "San Francisco", "Tonite Let's All Make Love In London", "The
Committee" (excellent source directly from the film!), "More" and "Zabriskie
Point".
Volume 6 (CD11 - CD12): Soundtracks 1970 - 1988
Soundtrack from "The Body" (Roger Waters and Ron Geesin), "La Vallee" (Pink
Floyd), "Magritte" (Roger Waters), "The Hit" (Roger Waters and Eric Clapton),
"When The Wind Blows" (Roger Waters), "White Of The Eye" (Nick Mason and Rick
Fenn). Radio ads for "Live At Pompeii" are also included.
Volume 7 (CD13 - CD14): Soundtracks 1992 - 1999
Soundtrack from "La Carrera Panamericana" (Pink Floyd), "Ruby Takes A Trip"
(David Gilmour), "The Art Of Tripping" (Divid Gilmour), "The Colours Of
Infinity" (David Gilmour), "The Dybbuck Of The Holy Apple Field" (Roger Waters)
and "La Leggenda Del Pianista Sull Oceano" / "Legend Of 1900" (Roger Waters).
Volume 8 (CD15 - CD16): David Gilmour and Roger Waters Rarities
Jokers Wild (featuring a very young David Gilmour) mini LP from 1965, singles
from "David Gilmour" and "About Face" solo albums, and all the Roger Waters
rarities (from "The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking" to "Amused To Death"),
including Waters's song "Incarceration Of A Flower Child" performed by Marianne
Faithfull.
Volume 9 (CD17): Rick Wright and Nick Mason Rarities
Rarities from Zee (Rick Wright and Steve Harris), Rick Wright's "Broken China"
promo CD and extended version of "Lie For A Lie", from Nick Mason and Rick Fenn,
featuring David Gilmour on vocals.

I downloaded it ages ago but I've only listened to a tiny portion of it (cos I can't be arsed - there's just too much of it).

Re: A Tree Full of Secrets

I know this is an old thread but i just got A Tree Full of Secrets in the mail last week. I think it is cool. It may take me a few days to listen to all of it.
If you have never seen it and have a bunch of time I would say download it. Or buy it from someone.

Re: A Tree Full of Secrets

I'm going to download it when I free up some space on my comp. From what I've seen, a lot of it is mono versions of most of the released songs, so I might just download the really rare stuff from it. Maybe you could tell me if it would be worth downloading the whole thing?
