Re: Ca Ira now a reality

"I always like to look on the positive side of the potential for the human spirit to rise above commerce and to... embrace the collective, in a way that is more humane in a world that is constructed around the free market, simply."

Good ol' Rog just can't let go of that hopeless idealism.

I listened to Ca Ira today. It certainly has all the Waters trademarks...howling wind, barking dogs, chirping birds, thunderclaps, childrens chorus... phrases like "everything under the sun" and "powers that be". I was waiting to hear the turbine whine and thwop-thwop-thwop of chopper rotor blades.

That being said, it was pretty good for an opera, and I'm no opera fan.

It will be quite awhile before I listen to it again, however.

I haven't seen the DVD, but it seems like it's something to watch.

I've listening to "Ça Ira" a little bit, and I think some of it is great. I'm not a big opera fan, but this seems to be something which is definitively worth an in depth listen.

I know a CD won't give this kind of work full justice, but if "Ça Ira" anytimes will be performed in Scandinavia I have to be there.

I highly recommend getting the 3-disc deluxe edition - you won't regret it.

Re: Ca Ira now a reality

Last night saw the piece premiere as a full-scale €2 million stage production. Did anyone attend, or watch it on TV? I saw a full-colour picture in this morning's newspaper and it looked awe-inspiring. Apparently Rog himself turned up in costume onstage, playing the part of Pope Pius VI!

Re: Ca Ira now a reality

I saw Ca Ira on polish TV. I couldn't attended it myself, 'cause there was David Gilmour show in Gdansk the following day. I haven't heard Ca Ira before (I'm waiting for the CD release to get cheaper ) but I must say I liked the show in Poznan very much! I'm glad it was broadcasted via TV - I saw both Rog and Dave this weekend Too bad not on the same stage
