Lightbulb The Great T-Shirt Quandry

SO I have a big dilemma (this is even bigger than the time I flew my beautiful red balloon over the Great Salt Lake in Utah and got shot down by man toting a 9mm.)

I made a trip to Target tonight (yes, the big US chain store, similar to Wal-Mart) and was shopping for a cheap pair of swimming trunks. Anyway, I was making my way through the isles and stumbled upon some rock 'n roll t-shirts on a rack. There were the usual Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and Hendrix generic shirts. And then I walked around to the other side of the rack and couldn't believe what I saw. Three different types of Pink Floyd shirts that I have never seen available before. Even more shocking, one of the shirts was a design that I have been seeking for quite some time - it was grey, with a large pink pig on the chest and Pink Floyd written below. It's the same shirt that you see Dave wearing in that famous picture from the Animals tour.

I was like a deer in headlights. Do I give in and buy a shirt that is commercialized and so widely available to the generic pink floyd fan? Do I stand to place my incredible fandom amoungst those who surely don't deserve to wear such a coveted shirt but are able to easily purchase it with the swipe of a plastic card at a discount department store?

I'll be honest, if I found these shirts at a Rock 'n Roll t-shirt shop I would have bought all three. But there is just something about buying them from a corporate store like Target.

Does anyone else agree?

Should I go ahead and buy it?

Sorry for this long winded inquiry.....I just feel so lost and hopeless.

Thank you all.

Signed your Chief of All Spoons (except those sold at Target),

corporations aren't inherentely evil, keep in mind that the record label pink floyd is on is also a huge corporation, and therefore pink floyd cd's are widely available everywhere too...

Re: Target T-Shirt

I would buy them, you know 99% of the other Target shoppers who will buy the t-shirts don't deserve them.

Re: The Great T-Shirt Quandry

I say buy 'em!!

I've been wanting that freakin pig t-shirt all my life...if I ever see it, even at any corporate store, I'm jumping on it and hissing at everyone who's trying to approach me or touching the shirt.

Buy it, keep it out of the hands of the people that don't deserve it.

Of course!

Don't hate big corporations, spoonboy, they bring you good stuff!

Rest assured there are enough true Floydoids around to buy up the stock of shirts before they fall into the hands of the unwashed.

And even if an untermensch does get his paws on it, so what? Maybe it will light a corner of the dark.

Re: The Great T-Shirt Quandry

It may well not have been in the spirit of the event, but I confess to buying not one but two Live8 t-shirts - one black and one light blue with Union Jack L8 logo - and the event programme from BandMad.com (the official Live8 merchandiser).

I did this out of frustration that my lucky colleague who got tickets didn't get me even a t-shirt as a consolation, but it turned out all human kindness is not lost since he did get me the Live8 pin. One good turn and all, I gave him the bottle of Chilean Merlot my neighbour gave me for jimmying her front door with a library card after locking herself out. Cosmic.

It doesnt really matter where you buy a t-shirt. There all the same. Its not like everyones going to hate you because you baught a Floyd shirt from Target. Targets a pretty good store. Other than that , if the shirt is cool and you like go ahead and buy it. Dilema terminated.
