One of these days  I was listening to The Final Cut again. Okay, the album isn't THAT great (just a Waters' ode to his father I think), but isn't bad too. And after listening to the whole record, I concluded that its best song is The Fletcher Memorial Home, which by the way is my ICQ nick. What do you think???

when i first bought it i thought "what the hell?" it was like an extension of bring the boys back home. it didn't sound too much like pink floyd, there was no rick and too many session musicians or special musicians or whatever. i hardly ever listened to it. but recently i started to listen to it more and i really like it. but still it should have been a waters solo album in my opinion.

My only problem with Fletcher Memorial Home is how it was placed into Echoes.

Time>>>>>Fletcher Mem =

It's almost an insult to the song Time.

Also, I'm trying to think of what's worse?

One of the Few OR A New Machine songs.

Catch my drift people? (Really bad short songs)

Paranoid Eyes would be OK if there was some actual music in it! I can't tell if Roger is singing or taking dictation!

The song 'The Final Cut' is the best song on that album, IMFO. The short ones do suck, but overall I think this a very good record.

Well, I think the best songs on the album are NNJ and the Gunner's Dream.
Memorial Home is not a great song IMHO, but I think that the guitar solo is simply AMAZING!!!

My favorite is (edit of) "Not Now John" and "The Gunner's Dream." They seem to sum up the whole album, despite the fact that the album is an RW solo set with Pink Floyd's name on it.
The line of NNJ, "Not now John, we've gotta get on with the film show! Hollywood waits at the end of the rainbow! Who cares what it's about? As long as the kids go!" I think, refers to the exploitation of war in films today (and especially in the 1950's). This is also reflected in the picture of the sodier holding a film canister...and a knife in his back.

so you don't listen to the unedited version of not now john. i also thought the soldier with the kinfe in his back and cannister of film had to do with the wall movie.

Why the edited version over the unedited version. Oh, that's right. Dave, Roger, go to your rooms this instant! How dare you say f*** on a song!

Probably, Thorin. Just one of the many interperretations (?) we can make of Floyd's great lyrics.

You still haven't answered the question of edited over unedited?

Does it matter?
I don't have the edited version, so I just show "STOP" or "NOT NOW JOHN" over that word.
(I made sure to note that I'd prefer the edited version in my first post on the subject because I knew little wise comments would pop up. )

...Oh yeah, it was "The Fletcher Memorial Home." I like that song too. Sort of like Dante's "Inferno." Not to be critical, but shouldn't you name the thread "The Fletcher Memorial Home" instead of "The Final Cut," implying as a whole?
