Antony and the Johnsons

I haven't been able to stop listening to this band for the past three months. There's something about the minimalist atmosphere and his haunting, quavering voice that does things to me. His most recent album, I Am a Bird Now is stunningly gorgeous. I'm just curious whether anyone else here knows the band and he/she thinks of them.

You'll be pleased to know that I for one have never heard of them.

Re: Antony and the Johnsons

Didn't they feature on some of Lou Reed's albums?

Re: Antony and the Johnsons

I believe Antony has sung back up on a Lou Reed album or some such thing, but all I know is his albums. And they're extraordinaireness.

You talking about these guys???

Just another "I'm a deep and moody New Yorker with angst and a pencil and I wanna be like Lou Reed, but I can't, because Lou never wanted fame nor adulation, and I do, and Lou actually has some talent" poser.

Wow, that was an ignorant post. You haven't even listened to them.

I'm trying to think of some music that sounds any less angsty than Antony & the Johnsons, and I can't come up with any.

Yes I have... and that is my opinion of them... If you don't like my opinion, that's fine. Just don't expect me to agree with you about them..

They also sound nothing like Lou Reed.

I've heard one song, "Hope There's Someone", I thought it was pretty good.

Re: Antony and the Johnsons

The straightforward lyrics work really nicely with his voice. And the trip through musical space is amazing, too.
