What else besides Pink Floyd

I sort of moved away from hardcore Pink Floyd since the last 10 years now , occasionally putting on Dark Side or Division Bell and once in a way The Wall.

Make no mistake though , I still think Pink Floyd are the greatest rock band ever and will give my eyeteeth to watch them re unite.

My interests in music has been pretty eclectic. Ranging from Iron Maiden ( who I absolutely love ) to jazz giutarists like John Scofield, Mike Stern , Pat Metheny and Steve Khan.

I also listen to blues like Albert Collins , BBKing and Gary Moore.

Hip Hop and Rap is a no no for me although I like slow R&B .

Discuss.....

Re: What else besides Pink Floyd

Nice selection there Socrates, very nice..

Much like yourself I listen to a lot of blues and a bit of jazz, but my staple diet is classic rock. I just like good music, well played. I play guitar myself, so I tend to drift toward good guitar driven music.

Jazz players I enjoy include Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola and Darryl Sturmer (when he was with Jean Luc Ponty particularly).

Blues wise.. well hell, everybody. All the Kings, BB, Albert, Freddie.... Hubert Summlin, Hound Dog Taylor, Lightning Hopkins.. Even some of the "New Kids" like Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, J.J. Cale, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Chris Duarte..... The list goes on forever...

Sounds like you'll fit in here just fine with that selection of music behind you..

If you like Gary Moore then try Thin Lizzy if you haven't already.
If you want to hear the actual greatest rock band IMHO then it has to be Led Zeppellin.
You also have the Floyd solos albums if you want some more floydesque material, try Rog first.
Radiohead was a good suggestion. Read this thread on Radiohead
Not really up on Jazz Guitarists, so I would take Fulghum's advice if I were you.

Listen, I know the MODs are strict, but there is no way they would ban anyone just because they own Michael Jackson's album'Thriller'. OOps...maybe I wasn't supposed to say..sorry

Anyway, music wise Socrates you have some good choices there. Fulghum has mentioned lots of my faves, and there are too many others to list, but I'm a big fan of Miles Davis, Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Colosseum, Grateful Dead, Hawkwind, Gong, Hendrix , John Martyn, Nick Drake.........I could go on and on (cue for someone to say, 'you usually do')

Welcome along.

Tom Waits. Hard to get into at first but once you manage it's sheer bliss.

Re: What else besides Pink Floyd

I recommend Marillion both Fish and Hogarth era. Even though the Hogarth era has a lot of crap. BTW you have a PM Edward.
