What's your best find?

Hi all,

Couldn't find anything like this topic in here, so I thought I'd start one (flame me if I'm wrong!). Over the last 17 years or so I've amassed a sweet collection of PF & solo vinyl LPs & CDs but there are always a few faves that make me smile... one of my best finds was an original 7" pressing of Arnold Layne at a record fair for just AUS$10 back in '91. It was covered in fine scratches but still played without any dramas, and I don't think the dust jacket is correct. But I was literally shaking with joy after having found it.

My best find however was a brand new copy of a BBC Transcription Services LP (pressed in 1983?) for the princely sum of AUS$5. I found it at a record shop aimed at danceclub DJs of all places! I've never seen it anywhere else since, not even listed on a discography of obsurities. It's labelled:

IN CONCERT - 307 [ i ]
VINTAGE PINK FLOYD 1970-71
CN 4208/S

It opens with a July 18, 1970 recording of the previously unreleased track Embryo, then Green Is the Colour, followed by Care With That Axe Eugene. Then onto One of These Days from October 3, 1971 with a full-length version of Echoes taking up all of Side 2. It has a bright yellow sleeve with green BBC T.S. text on it and a "Copyright recording for radio broadcast only" message on the reverse side, and has an introduction by Richard Skinner.

So hows about you people then? What treasures have you found in the bargain bins?

Cheers, Dish.

Re: What's your best find?

There's a place in San Diego that has a Butcher Cover of the Beatles' Yesterday and Today, but they know what it is so it's marked up like you'd expect.

Re: What's your best find?

I only have two Floyd vinyl's, and I found them in my moms and my aunts record collections, they are mine now:

A Nice Pair -- don't know if that is rare to find?, I know it's not on CD.

A Collection of Great Dance Songs -- this either?

A Nice Pair isn't on CD, but it's pretty easy to find on vinyl. I have a copy.

I hear about it a lot, yet I have never seen it myself.

Cool Re: What's your best find?

my second best find was at the same show. i found the "behind the wall" roio, was the first roio i ever bought, and started me on a very expensive hobby. but i was just amazed at a live wall show, and it sounded good

Re: What's your best find?

I once found a folded paper containing a weird white powder. That was near the NAC stadium.

Re: What's your best find?

Being a college student with no real money and a fairly recent Floyd fan, I can't say that I have much of a collection, but I did find something that is (I think) of note at a CD sale that went on at our university center a few days ago. They didn't have much in the way of Floyd - as a matter of fact, I bought them out, since there were only three Floyd or Floyd-related albums. One was The Division Bell, another was Roger's Radio K.A.O.S., but the third is the one I found really interesting.

It's called "Pink Floyd: Building The Wall" and is apparently some sort of promo disc with Roger's home recordings of early Wall concepts. The sound isn't too bad, and it's very interesting to listen to - Comfortably Numb, for example, has quite different lyrics (some of which I am quite frankly glad he changed - case in point, "Listen/I am a physician/And I can help with your condition/Just like a magician" Sorry Rog, not your best!), and there's just a different "feel" to some of the other songs. Like I said, I'm not a serious collector or anything, just a college kid who happened to be lucky enough to find this used CD for $12 at a sale - I don't know if it's especially rare or valuable or anything, but I had never seen it before and it looked cool, so I got it. Has anyone heard of this? I'd be interested to know. Peace!
