| Re: Tom Cruise. A bit of a drip? This has all gotten very serious. The question was....oh bugger ...I've forgotten.. whose Ron Hubbard anyway...is it any relation of Old Mother Hubbard, who went to the cupboard, to give poor tommy a shock they gave him a splash and tommy did dash to put them all in the dock!

Scientology is not a religion. When I hear a skunk like Trovalta saying on national television that he can heal people with his hands (positive energy flow crap he farted out of his mouth on a Barbara Walters special) it makes me worry about the influence that Scientology has over the ignorant and weak-minded. Scientology is a pyramid scheme. Hubbard simply got around the leagalities by making it a religon. And to answer the critics who say it is a cult, he put it in the public eye by recruiting celebrities thereby hoping iot would be more acceptable. Without this being an endorsement of Tom Cruise or Scientology, I can say that I finally did view the Matt Lauer bit and Tommy did have a point, but I highly doubt he came to that conclusion on his own. Also, it makes me laugh when people who have no real understanding of theology or the role of religion on the development of societies and cultures find it humurous that people who do know can have an educated discussion on the subject.

| Re: Tom Cruise. A bit of a drip? I never thought of Tom Cruise as a very good actor and none of his movies ever really blew me away.

| Re: Tom Cruise. A bit of a drip? Top Gun was complete trash. Aside from the outstanding aerial footage, they got not one detail right about it. Charlie Sheen did a much better job in Hot Shots. On the other hand, the scene in Risky Business when he gets the bill to have his father's 928 repaired will stay with me forever. "All right, who's the U-Boat commander?"

| Re: Tom Cruise. A bit of a drip? But "belief" implies faith. Scientology is not based on faith of any kind. According to Hubbard himself it is "built on definite axioms: statements of natural laws on the order of those of the physical sciences". This denies any room for faith, yet disqualifies it from the realm of science. It is pseudoscience at best, and a malicious brainwashing scheme at worst.

That is very broad of you--in that case my belief in gravity and air should qualify as a religion.
