Has anyone here heard the 'Doves: Lost Souls' album?

You might disagree with me, but some of it sounds a little like Floyd...and it is definitely a good sounding album.

They never actually menton Pink Floyd, but the album title itself, and some of the lyrics, sound like they're inspired by Pink Floyd.

In the "thanks to" section at the back of the sleave, they mention the Velvet Underground, and I definitely think some of the background singing in track #3 sounds like piper at the gates of dawn.

Then again, I might have had a momentary lapse of reason.

No no, no no, no no, yes, (sorry, blame The Vicar Of Dibley) I completely agree, it's a great album by a great band - check out Rise, it's ace and some of it does have a definite Floyd feel to it. If you haven't heard it go and listen to it right now!

Not to divert too much but I've noticed that The Coral also have some Floyd influence (There's a postcard that resembles Piper At The Gates Of Dawn in that The Coral is written in the same style as the writing on the album and the background is vaguely similar) and it does show a bit on their album.

I dunno which band it is but on the cover of their most recent album, its the sign of Scorpio with a spectrum like on DSOTM's cover. I wonder where the idea came from...

The Doves is a good band I think. I've heard The Last Broadcast and it was very good. I haven't heard their latest offering but I'm tempted to.

Man I'd forgotten entirely about this thread. Never noticed someone (Fixxy I think) revived it.

I found The Last Broadcast a little more difficult to get into that Lost Souls...but thanks to a rather persistent cool dudette I've become a pretty big fan of it as well. Doesn't have the same Floydy influence though. "Caught By The River" would be my fav.

Dr Cheese... I actually understood that Vicar of Dibley thing. Haven't seen that for a bit. Very funny.

Hey, Driven Man, if it weren't for Doves, then there may never have been any stuff?!

Guess that makes Doves even more cool
