Re: Well, what did we think about PF on Live8?

He/she didn't say it wouldn't have sounded good also, they said it sounded better this way. Meh.

Breathe had me slightly worried - they were okay but not great, and Gilmour's voice was really showing it's age. Money was probably the best performance-wise, as I think it may have been superior to the studio version; Gimlour's (superior to studio) solo is most likely the reason. The dedication of WYWH was nice, and Gilmour seemed to sound more like his old self again(same goes for Comfortably Numb), though Waters sounded very ****ing old. Still, their performance of it was overall great. Comfortably Numb was excellent, and my only complaint was that the back-up singers got kind of annoying during the chorus. I don't think Gilmour's solo was better than the studio version, unlike Money, but it was still (obviously) awesome. Instrumentally the band sounded top-notch. I should also mention that I didn't catch it on MTV; one of my local rock stations played the set a few hours after they performed it, so I can't comment on the interuptions

I thought the performance was great, and it seems like outside of the guitar solos you didn't like it. Also, I find it interesting that how a guitar solo is performed can make or break a song for you. I thought everythig was really good. I thought Roger's voice sounded fresh and I don't understand where you thought it sounded old? It was a little off for Wish You Were Here but that's to be expected as he was trying to match Gilmour's style and the two voices are really different. On Comfortably Numb where he was singing his own parts he sounded great. Also, I think you're a little harsh on the back up singer. Except for her appearing on the camera from time to time I hardly noticed her, and I felt like her contribution did nothing to detract from the song. Also, I think all of the solo's were good because I just enjoy watching them play them in person. David has a lot of soul.

These guys haven't played with Rog for 24 years and they haven't played together at all for 10, they had barely a week to rehearse and they produce a world class performance like that! Come on it was ****ing amazing!!

hear, hear, and spread the word: Pf is still ruling! The pole on BBc is really going off and says it all. It's not just because we're Floydians that made it very special. It WAS something very special. Also due to the guys who don't know what the f**k a tremolo is. Sounds like an Italian food-restaurant to me.........

They waited a long time to rehearse it too. And the thing about hearing diff between electronics? Bullshit. Not in hell. The EMGs he uses are almost identical to the vintage strats, all that is added is the middle.

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

had a smile all over my face and a tear that was stucked and was unable to know if it was from joy of seeing them together or from sadness that i was born too late....
Anyways... i thought they were all great, Gilmour's voice hasnt changed (well thats comparing to the cd's...) perfect, perfect perfect...
it was their stage, their alone... i hope they know how big they are.... it was all theirs

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

Well I was there, and i has to be one of the most amazing things I have ever seen, Their entire set was perfect, from the heartbeats of Speak to Me right through to their hugs at the end, and i cant think of any way it could have been better, apart from them maybe actually showing poor Rick on the screens at least once, oh and Dave maybe saying something more inspiring at the end . We were close to the front next to the golden circle but im not tall so I had to stand on my toes to see the performers for most of it, but as the Floyd came on 2 gaps opened up through all the heads, one with a direct view to Roger and the other to Dave - meant to be, i tell you

The greatest moments had to be 1 - their entrance with Speak To Me and starting Breathe, simply because it was a moment I thought i'd never have the chance to see, seeing the band live in front of me on stage...it built up to a massive climax for the start of the first song with the screens showing the heartbeats and the sound slowly growing louder and louder, till the first chord of Breathe kicked in ad it was really them, and 2) The greatest solo of the greatest song ever written, as Make Poverty History was written on The Wall.

From watching the tv broadcast afterwards it was dissapointing that they'd managed to capture Gilmour's less enthusiastic moments in their coverage, being there I did see him looking a lot happier on the screens, and he had a proper hug with Roger after the coverage had moved on.

Utterly awesome!

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

well thanks cyberbuddy!

i noticed that in the extra section of the `in the flesh` dvd, roger says he doesn't want the recording tape of the intro of comfortably numb to be part of the show. he insist to just start the song without it. yesterday at live8 they start the song exacly the same way as the `in the flesh` version, roger saying `ok there we go` and then the song start.
