Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

As Nick mentioned, in 1985 they weren't a band at all. Rick was out, Roger was out and wanted the band dead, there wasn't much that Geldof or anyone could do at that time. But time pass, the river rolls...

True, true. Who are you all again?

I stand corrected, 20 years ago - and they were much more of a band 10 years ago either.

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

I missed something?
PF reunited?

OK, I am 300 kilometres from home, with no Internet, no MTV (only four channels of **** on TV to choose from...), and no chance to post more for a month, so don`t wait me to reply.
So, the show was on MTV? Where can I see it, will there be a DVD, can I download the show somewhere? Too many questions, I`ll just browse the APFFN and read about everything that happened.

(doh! doh! (double)doh!, I missed a PF show )

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

Waters should not have sung on Wish You were here. Somehow it was incongruous. Though I really dont think he has lost his voice. And what is this thing about they are old. Referring to precisely such comments Nick Mason once said the difficult thing about being a rocker is that people are interested in how many new wrinkles have appeared on the rockers face or how much hair they have lost and weight they have put on.

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

Whats wrong with Carin helping Wright a little. After all Renwick also played with Gilmour. And who played bass on Wish you were here?

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

It was Renwick playing bass on WYWH. And it's not a matter of "help" actually, but if you want to have the strings, the piano, the hammond, the rythm guitar, the lead all at the same time you do need backing musicians. And the much "layered" music Pink Floyd produced since 1973 requires such augmented line up.

Re: Pink Floyd Performance at Live 8

Well, after all they played together because somebody just asked them to, instead of offering them huge amounts of money. And it worked in the end........

They played together again to help make a global political statement not because "somebody just asked them to".

It's actually quite sad. Gilmour has wanted a Pink Floyd reunion since 85, but Waters wouldn't have it. So they toured without him, but all the legal issues over who gets the name solidified the rift between Gilmour and Waters. But now that Gilmour has put Pink Floyd behind him, and wants to work on solo stuff, Waters wants a reunion. Why couldn't they have timed this better?

By the end of your post, it sounds like it has already been confirmed that Waters wants a reunion. It hasn't been.

I just read a quote in the Life section of my local paper that had Waters saying that he and Gilmour have too many artistic and political differences to move on together.

I think that that's known as 'damage limitation'
