Re: Nick Mason

i have noticed that you can not fully appreciate drummers unless you either play them, or no someone personally who is really good at drumming. I used to think drummers were useless but i had a friend in a band that was AMAZING at playing the drums. He opened my eyes to drummers. Mason is a VERY talented drummer, although alot of floyd's songs do not require him to play all out drums. If you have ever watched "live at popmeii" where is the center of attention focused on most of the film? Who has the most cameras focused on him? if you think he just sits there and hits things you are totally wrong. Everyone of the Floyd members are amazing at what they do.

Re: Nick Mason

Ambassador, do you play drums? If so, maybe you could help me with my PF website. As a fan of Mr. Wright, I am very aware of what happens when someone is not given their due, and have tried very hard not to allow that to happen. However, my section for Mr. Mason is not very good, and needs a lot of help. Maybe the perspective of a drummer would help me...might you be able to help out? I really want to make sure I give Mr. Mason his due credit for his talent on my site; unfortunately, as a keyboardist/guitarist (both are amateur), I really don't know what to look for or how to express any of it meaningfully.

Re: Nick Mason

Although this forum looks dead let it be known that Nick Mason is one of the best drummers of all time. ANd so is Bonzo he kicks ass. For all those guitar playing pussies out there listen up. IF you play drums ur ass is moving non stop. it s like running a mile or 2. so if u ppl playing guitar think it is hard to stand up and put on a little girly show try playing double bass drums like Nick and Bonzo and go nuts and tear the shit out those drums and see how long you can go. Mason and Bonzo were masters of their coordination, all four limbs moving all the time, and all u got to do move 2 hands and walk, if you don't know don't assume cuz assuming makes an ass of u and me. And too the person that said 10 minutes of a drum solo is to long, shut up, drum solos kick ass and it's a shame that no band's now a days do them, but thats cuz they all suck. they make mason and bonzo look even better! NICK MASON KICKS ASS!!!! without him there would no pink floyd sound!

Hands include fingers, of which a guitar player uses at least five or six, which would technically outnumber four limbs. Not that I have anything against drummers; two good friends and one machine of mine are very proficient drummers. I just don't think we need to get down on guitar guys.

Floyd Waters:
"On TDB, which song has the most non-standard drumming/rhythm? Which one noticeably breaks away from the rest of the album in that regard? What person is/are credited with the music on that song? "

What is it then?
Poles Apart?

Re: Nick Mason

That's an interesting take...I did not notice so much on "Poles Apart". It was actually WtIO that got my attention for having a strange, distinct rhythm.

Re: Nick Mason

I don't think nick mason is nearly the most talented drummer out there but he's still pretty darn good. I am not an expert on drummers by any means but it can't be easy to play some of the wierd, unconstant beats that a lot of the early floyd songs had. Just listen to careful with that axe or saucerful off of the ummagumma live album. When i listen to those songs i think it's the drumming that stands out above all else. Their just such wierd, trippy, spiraling beats.
