Re: Nick Mason

I would have to agree, and say that he is a great drummer. I play both drums and guitar, and I have to say drumming requires a lot more independence between lilmbs. I am not putting down guitar players, or saying it is easy, but to play good drums (like Mason) you have to have that feel. You cant explain it, but its what makes the great drummers.

Also, for anyone who says Nick's drumming went down after 73, i have 3 words for you: HAVE A CIGAR. Also IN THE FLESH both parts. Have a Cigar is the coolest Pink Floyd groove and one of the coolest ever.

He just had to adapt his style and be more focused when Waters took over the band. But if you don't think someone like Ringo is a great drummer, than you prob won't like Mason either.

Re: Nick Mason

I like Nick. He seems like a funny guy. As for his drumming, he's pretty good, but then again I don't know much about drumming. Anyway! Nick wears really good clothes, too. Well, he did, when he was younger. What am I even talking about?

That's what we've been asking for a long time, now.

Re: Nick Mason

It's not my fault, I get like this when I'm tired and in a good mood.

Re: Nick Mason

Just because this thread was dredged back up, I am going to put in my two cents.

I am a drummer, so I can understand drummers (I guess). And Nick Mason is a GOOD drummer. He does not have many frills, like Bonzo. But it does take skill to (A) operate two bass drums AND a set of hi-hats; it seems your left foot is at cross purposes, and (B) even use all four of your limbs at the same time. Nick Mason did both. And with very good skill, I might add. Plus, Nick Mason would never bore us with a ten-minute drum solo. The longest 'solo' I can think of is maybe Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun from Pompeii... and that was maybe four minutes long, and wasen't even a solo.

Re: Nick Mason

Re: Nick Mason

Yeah... I remember that song.

Here's the order for "Moby Dick":

Riff.
Long drum solo.
Riff.
End.

Simple, yet kinda boring. The drum solo was good though. There was nothing wrong with it technically, but it was a bit... boring.

Um...um..."Grand Vizier Part II"? Maybe not 10 minutes...but VERY annoying!

Well... what else was Nick going to do for half an LP side? Extend his wife's flute parts to be a 10 minute flute solo?

Re: Nick Mason

Well, now that you mention it...the flute part could've been elaborated on some.

Also, see "Pink's Song" for a very nice use of a flute...

Re: Nick Mason

To fully appreciate Grand Viziers you have to play it backwards on 45 rpm. Without the vinyl it will be difficult.
