Re: Nick Mason

What do you think of Nick? I guess most of you never took time to think about him.

Re: Nick Mason

He's a good drummer, but what is there to think about? He doesn't write songs or sing.
He sits there, plays the drums and collects cars.

Re: Nick Mason

People never appreciate the drummer enough. They r always the ppl who "just sit there and play the drums". I myself play the drums and have lately been learing some Nick Mason drumming and let me tel u that it is extremely hard. Even his normal rock beat has a different feel and groove than a normal rock beat, I don't think ppl realise that. And I can only wonder how many bass skins he has smashed cos that bass is constantly going. So personaly I love him, his drumming was very unique

Re: Nick Mason

I play the guitar and let me tell you, it's more work. I've got to play, sing, and run or walk around the stage like a moron because i'm too friggin' hyper and I can't sit still. Plus I can't stand a guitar player with no stage presence. I also used to play the drums, it's not easy, but it's easier than what I do.

Re: Nick Mason

unless he is some awesome drummer or has a lot of input into the writing of songs then he is just another person who backs up the main person or people.

Re: Nick Mason

Truth be told, I think that his drumming peaked around about '73. He just seems to be content with the standard 4/4 now.

Re: Nick Mason

Don't really know so much about guitar playing, I'm sure it's not easy. No instrument is. But like Isaid he's drumming has a slightly different groove, don't know how to xplain it,it feels different when u r playing it.

Re: Nick Mason

Oh well no use arguing, there's always been a difference of opinion between guitarists and drummers.

Re: Nick Mason

Your right. It's easy to tell if a drummer's any good. Just listen.

Re: Nick Mason

Hallo Leute,

i know anybody thinks that Mason is less important than the other pf-members.
For the sound(and only for the sound!) of PF he is (i think!) even more important than Roger Waters (with his shitty bass-playing).
He has a very unique style of drumming, too: Just listen to older songs like "echoes" or "Careful with that axe". It's magic.
I know this because i'm a drummer, too.

Also, Mason was the member who did a large amount of sound effects on their 70s LPs.

To eugenesaxe:
i know persons like you. Many people think that drumming consists of hitting some toms, the bass-drum, the snare and the hihat in the right order. But it's far more to it than this. It is very difficult to get a beat grooving.

Re: Nick Mason

Right, so by what I said it must mean that I think Lars Ulrich is the greatest drummer ever. His crap is standard, Mason is good.
