Roger.

"through the fish eyed lense of tear stained eyes"...love that line. Syd's lyrics might have been happy but they don't make too much sense to me.

Re: Waters vs. Barrett

Syd Barrett is quite overrated, Roger Waters isn't. I believe Barrett get's the respect he get's because of the story about him. Had he just left the band after one album without the additional story he would just be that weird guy that was in Floyd once, hardly remembered probably.

Re: Waters vs. Barrett

I'd have to go with Syd because I admire everything he did, every song he wrote (with Floyd and solo) and just the guy he was. so sad he broke down so fast.

waters may be a prick, but i still love his lyrics, and Syd is someone i feel awfully sorry for and i love his lyrics too. i dont know, i think its a tie for me. i have a soft spot for each of them, ya' know?

And no Dave either!!

Syd was Pink Floyd, I don't feel the same could ever be said about Rog. Syd created the band, the name, the songs, he was lead singer and lead guitarist.
Waters wrote some damn good songs and possibly led the band far more than Syd ever did but he wasn't followed through respect and appreciation like Syd was in his short reign.
My personal preference is for Rog though. As much as I like the Syd era it does appear to fit with the environment of the late 60s and the drug scene and just doesn't have the same timeless qualities of the later floyd during the waters era.

Re: Waters vs. Barrett

Well barret made one decent pink floyd album and contributed a bit to saucerful which is also quite decent. However, neither of these albums realy compare to masterpieces such as animals(practically all written by waters) and meddle so waters without a doubt.

Syd was never an outstanding artist.

What about the final cut and the wall which were practically solo albums for waters except fo a few solos on final cut and a few co written tracks w/ gilmour on the wall. In piper half of the tracks were collaborations with the other band members so i would say that for a short period of time waters was in fact pink floyd more than barret ever was.

Re: Waters vs. Barrett

Why would Syd be a genius? That is just plain bullshit, his lyrics were quite simple and didn't really have a good subject. The music was nothing mindblowing either. Please explain to me why Syd Barrett is a genius, I can't find out myself.

The very fact that you say they were practically solo albums proves my point of him leading the band with very little input from other members. That doesn't make him Mr. Pink Floyd that makes him Rog with special guest. That the barrett tracks had collaborations shows the band were more together, but I don't think that anybody could honestly say that Syd wasn't the main man.
