Re: The one and only official Photographers thread..

Wonderful, TC!! I love the colors and their contrast in your picture.

Great work as well Fulghum! Lovely waterfall!

There is quite a bit of talent in this forum!

There you go, one more picture of mine. If there is one particular thing that I like when taking photographs is finding a beautiful view surrounded by a frame of plants. This is the case in this picture. Also, the light at this time of the day (dusk) gives a really nice effect.

Re: The one and only official Photographers thread..

There's a bit too much of light there on the plants(IMHO).Your sense of framing is quite good.
Myself am not much into scapes or scenes ,I prefer to work on finding themes in abstractions. There's a lot happening when you twirl a drop of ink in water.

Yes, you're right. I was worried about the lack of light at that time of the day and I put too much light (and I was also very close to the plants which didn't help either). Still, I like the colours and texture of the sea. Perhaps I should have focused more on the sea with a shorter frame of plants (experience makes us all better!).

Really, it hasn't been very long since I'm taking photographs. I started in my last summer holiday during a trip through the north of Spain and I'm trying to get better. Now, in some weekends (when I haven't got too many exams to correct!) I grab a couple of CDs, I get on the car and I drive till I reach an interesting place. Then I take a long walk (two or three hours) and I try to capture interesting places under interesting lights. That makes for a very nice afternoon. I don't think I have much merit since I don't know much about photography, it's just a matter of being lucky and being at the right place and in the right moment. And, of course, the merits go to the wonderful landscapes I've got in my homeland!!

Here's one more picture of the lovely coast of the Mediterranean:

actually I did not do anything special, just took the photograph with a lamp almost above,no flash, and then put on some contrast in photoshop.

So, today we are starting our first true technical contest, with the topic "Shallow DOF (Depth of Field)". For those who want to learn more about this technique, we have created a contest forum thread here. Feel free to ask any questions you may have on this topic in the thread, and we hope that some of our more experienced members can help the beginners out a bit.

Right up there with the 'Thursdays syndrome', where you post a photo taken by someone else in the hope that people will think...

*wink*wink* back at ya!
