James "Scotty" Doohan

James Doohan died yesterday at the age of 85, from complications arising from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease. James Doohan played the character of Scotty in the orignal Star Trek series.

Well, he won't be having to worry about 'keepin' 'er together' anymore. Cheers, Scotty.

I guess he was finally "beamed up" himself.

RIP, Scotty.

Yikes! Pneumonia AND Alzheimer's. Unlucky, but at least he had a good innings, living to 85.

Enjoy the "Final Frontier", oh, namesake of my favourite dog, Scotty.

Re: James "Scotty" Doohan

Scotty was a great role model for countless Scottish children. His exploits on Star Trek as an amazing engineer, who just happened to enjoy drinking whisky, gave youngsters the hope that they could aspire to be 'just like Scotty'. Many didn't manage the engineering bit, but they certainly persevered at the drinking side of it!

A terrific actor. Very underrated and unfortunately typecast! But we all loved that character so it's all good. Farewell Jimmy!

THe worst part, he wasn't even Scottish. When he auditioned he tried out several accents, and the producers asked which one he liked best, so he said the Scotsman...but you know I kinda think he was Canadien or some other country that doesn't matter.

Seriously though, I was saddened to hear it.

Re: James "Scotty" Doohan

Yeah, both he and William Shatner were born Canadian. Shatner actually has a building named after him at McGill university (unofficially)!
