Radiohead - The new Pink Floyd?

I think when Radiohead is called the next Pink Floyd, it's like when Phish is called the next Grateful Dead. Neither one sounds like their predecessors, but rather they employ the same techniques. Radiohead use manipulated technology as a means to create a new sound, as Floyd did back in their day. They are also full of experimentation, and balls out not caring what the standard is.

Labeling a band as the next anything is unfair both for the band and the anything .

But if you're talking qualitywise then I think Radiohead may be on their way to creating some of the best records from this and the past decade.

One question, I bought Pablo Honey, The Bends, OK Computer years ago. And I just bought Kid A, amazing stuff.

My question: are Amnesiac and the new live album worth buying???

I personally enjoyed Amnesiac and I Might Be Wrong. Amnesiac is even more experimental than Kid A, so it sounds a bit weirder. I liked that, but I've heard others who did not, so it's up to you. As for I Might Be Wrong, it's a very interesting sort of live concert. It has the rougher sound of Mr. Waters' In the Flesh, but it works FAR better than ITF. You can actually hear Thom Yorke mess up once in awhile on vocals, and so on. It really does give the feeling of being at the concert.

the good thing about the live one is to see how they do some of the songs differently. i also just really like live albums.

i see. they do a really good version of "spinning plates" on that. i just wish it had "how to disappear completely and never be found"

Awww, don't be sorry, ClusterOne. Everyone gets lost in a thread one time or another.

I also liked that version of "Like Spinning Plates". I think I would like to find some chords for that so I can learn to play it on the piano.

But yes...HOW could they ignore "How to Disappear Completely"? That is EASILY the most powerful non-Floyd song I have ever heard. Tremendous music...sweeping and powerful. I almost wonder how it would sound performed with a full orchestra. Most rock songs, if performed with singing AND an orchestra, sound cheesy (I point to that awful Orchestral Maneuvers thing as an example). But I think that one would be powerful enough that it would really work.

While Radiohead is the topic, let me tell everyone that I bought OK Computer today and listened to it once.
It was very good.
I found that little section, "Electioneering" I believe it's called, to be amusing. I couldn't help but smile when I heard the phrase "like a cat tied to a stick" being said by that computer voice. It's very... amusing!

"Fitter Happier"? Yeah...that's pretty funny.

BTW, watch the banner ad at the top of this site...sometimes it shows a Radiohead poster with those lyrics.

I just noticed that, having read those words there. They also have another Radiohead banner, too, with some odd guy on it.
