Re: Radiohead - The new Pink Floyd?

There is no band at least nowdays that can be compaired with PF. Except the huge difference between their music we re talkin about two completely different times and I don t mean just the technological progress. Also think about that PF began fourty years ago and that we can easily hear tpatgod.
Do you think that in 2045 we ll be listening to Radiohead (which I personally don t like but I respect them more than the other bands) ??

Btw talkin about compares yesterday I heard Comortably Numb in the radio and after that it played Blackfield, and while it was ending the guy says: Those two tracks are pretty similar !?
After that I threw my walkman on the wall

Re: Radiohead - The new Pink Floyd?

Blackfield is actually an excellent album/band, but yes, it'd be a bit of stretch to say they were comparable to CN. I'd say they take more influences from Floyd's OBC and More sounds.

And I find that odd, since the only person I can really think of that comes close to matching Floyd's amazingness is Steven Wilson (member of Blackfield, but that's just one of many side projects of his).

But Blackfield on the radio?? I find this VERY unusual.

It s a very common phenomenon here in Greece, I really hate the band and especially the song just because I hear it 10 times a day on the radio. Under other circumstances I might have liked them cause porcupine tree from which they come from is a band that I like.

Interesting.

Next week, British rock group Radiohead will release its new album, In Rainbows. And so far, the group has said on the album's Web site that it will be available only through download from Radiohead.com.

And if that's not enough to cause a stir in the music industry, users can download the album without paying a cent. Actually, In Rainbows is available for whatever price a user wishes to pay -- including nothing.

Re: Radiohead - The new Pink Floyd?

I'm immensely excited about this. I plan on getting the discbox for $80 American if only because that's the only way you can get the bonus disc which has Last Flowers on it, which is an amazing song. Other than that, I can't wait to hear the other new material and see the new artwork.

Re: Radiohead - The new Pink Floyd?

$80 is absolutely too much for a physical product, and anything more than a buck is too much for plain vanilla mp3's with no artwork.

I'll download for free on Wednesday and get the stand-alone CD next year. I can't bear to see my beloved CD shops die just yet.

It's not going to be easy but it will eventually happen, I guess.

I still remember those days when I was 15, 16 years old and you could still find vinyls in the shops. My friend and me (the only one who had the same musical tastes as me) would spend hours looking for bargains and admiring the artwork. There was one particular shop runned by a young man with whom I used to talk about Brian Eno, Peter Hammill, King Crimson. He had to close the shop in about 3 or 4 years; he knew a lot about music but very little about business...

Times change.

Re: Radiohead - The new Pink Floyd?

You can still find vinyls round here too but only in certain shops and they aren't popular anymore (at least not among people under 35)

Only DJ's that make your ears bleed buy vinyl.
