Flaming Lips / Mercury Rev

Just wanted to know what people think of this band, they've been going a long time now and have made constantly quirky music for over twenty years now they are closely affiliated with Mercury Rev another band who have been around for a while now jonathon Donahue was a member of the Lips once.I personally think both bands are excellent and a good example of bands plugging away obscurly for years then making good.

My dad owns a copy of deserter's songs. It's not bad. Holes is good song, as is Tonite it shows and Opus 40. The rest is average.

I bought Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and i was like, cool, it was trippy but had a good rock bit goin on. especially like Do You Realize?
played that to girlfriend, she digged it.

but recently i bought the Soft Bulletin, its ok but more mainstream. not being mainstream was one of their traits i liked

Re: Flaming Lips / Mercury Rev

I recently bought 'Yoshimi' at a used record store mainly because it was a good price. Once I put it on, I had no idea what in the hell I was getting into. But, I really like the album now, especially the creepy sound fx.

I have also heard "She Don't Use Jelly" from their earlier days. Funny stuff.
