Pink Floyd with symphony orchestra

What about a full live set with floyd and symphony?
It's been done by bands like Deep Purple and Metallica, and sounded awesome. Sound pictures turn bigger and deeper, with several "sub melodies". Imagine a "Pulse like" Comfortably Numb with full orchstra! It would sound...BIG! I have a CD with London symphony ochestra playing Floyd stuff as classical. All it needs is Pink Floyd! Both Deep Purple and metallica recorded and gave out their concerts on cds...Great way of performing rock!

I don't know. I never bought nor heard one of those symphonic floyd albums. I am not very persuaded that music of Pink Floyd can be enhanced by orchestration... I could be wrong though.

I have a DVD with YeS accompanied by a symphony, and in all honesty, it's a good DVD, but the symphony really just sits there doing secondary things, nothing much really, bands like YeS and Pink Floyd really don't need a symphony, unless of course they were preforming AHM, that might be cool.

I have the London symphony orchestra playing Pink Floyd CD, and it is good. But the Floyd are still better on their own.

if they aranged something with both floyd and orchestra i think it would be very different from the pure classical versions of their songs. (that you have) I think the sub melodies from the orchestra would make things sound good. Not nesecerly better, but different. Thats what i think would be cool.
Heard deep purple doing smoke on the water with symphony? I love hearing the violins doing the riff with the guitar.

But most important: Pink Floyd is best as Pink Floyd.

Interesting idea. Yes recently did goods things with symphonic orchestrations (ie; the Magnification album). Some Floyd material would really lend itself to similar arrangements. Personally, I'd find any particular album pretty tedious if it was completely revised, but a performance or recording of selected pieces would work really nicely - naturally, using the 'band' as the basis for the work. Suggestions ? Start with SOYCD and take it from there.

Speaking of previous releases of this nature, some years ago I heard an ochestral version of Floyd music done by that fellow who used to play in Killing Joke. I was completely into the idea, but that particular work didn't grab me. Sorry Jaz, but I did like 'Love Like Blood'.

Interesting subject, and as somebody mentioned the Metallica perfromances, I think It'd be right to point out that Micheal Kamen worked with them on that.
Floyd fans may know that Mr. Kamen worked with the band on The Final Cut and I think on The Wall for the orchestral parts. He also makes contributions (arrangements only) to Roger Waters' solo material.
The potential is there, and as the latter material did use orchestral accompanyment, it would have it's merits.

However I'm more for tasteful accompanyment rather than re-interpretation, but that's been said already.

I believe he also composed for work on more than The Final Cut and The Wall. I'm fairly certain that it's his work on High Hopes, yet I'm too lazy to research this.

Of course you were.

I think well-placed orchestrations can lend a great deal deal to a song...but just making the sound *bigger* for the sake of it can actually ruin a song that isn't supposed to be big, or overblown.
