floyd or not?

ok so my dad keeps bugging me about a song he heard on the radio, he says the guy said that it was a really rare floyd song that apparently almost no one knows. He tried explaining the song to me, he says it sound like irish folk (!!) but he would have never tell it was the PF it they didn't say it was. But again, never believe everything you hear on radio...even if that radio station is quite good at finding rare stuff. I have no idea what the song could be. what do you think?

Re: floyd or not?

Most likely 69-72 I'd think. Just to add parameters.

Re: floyd or not?

rare PF stuff from 69-72 sounding like irish folk? with violins and accordions?
it's quite hard to imagine...

I'm really starting to think that it's not the floyd at all and the dude on the radio was waaaay wrong.

Re: floyd or not?

My guess, for what it's worth, would be not rare, but rather something off of PATGOD, like The Gnome.

Re: floyd or not?

Really.

To most people, anything other than Money, Brick#2, and Comfy Numb is a "rarity".

I'm thinking Rob is probably on the right track.

Re: floyd or not?

Or maybe The Scarecrow... That's got some weird instrumental at beginning and end. I'm going with that.

Re: floyd or not?

And in conclusion........the radio sucks because they play about 10 floyd songs and thats it.....however i did call up a local classic rock radio station once and asked them to play lucifer sam. I knew they wouldnt play it, but i wanted to ask anyway. As i expected, the dj "was not familiar with that one"...hah tool

Re: floyd or not?

The local station around here has played some "rare" stuff at listener requests. The thing is, anything off of PATGOD would be unheard of by most because it was practically unheard in the US until relatively recently (as in when Floyd became really big with, say, The Wall) and some of its most earnest fans tracked down the back albums.

Re: floyd or not?

first, thanks to all of you guys for the suggestions

but the problem was solved this morning when my dad woke me up at 6 to yell at me that the song was playing again on the radio. Congratulations DeathTöngue, you were right, it was indeed The Gnome. I felt like calling the radio station for complaining about the dj's lack of information but decided to go back to sleep instead

By contrast, the Pink Floyd vendors in urban Canada managed to stock the whole back catalogue by 1975... not to mention bootlegs! There's a recording from the Ivor Wynne stadium in Hamilton, a gig from before Wish You Were Here was even released, where crowd members can be heard shouting requests for "Fingal's Cave"!
