i agree - the first and last verses are perfect - to me the Us and Them verse is about how groups of humans can be so cruel to one another, but that we can disguise it from ourselves by thinking we wouldn't act that way. A kind of personal war..?
and the Down and Out section - greed can blind us from true need...?
