Re: Very interesting new "Wall" tribute album

Yesterday I bought "Ça Ira" and I also saw this tribute album in the record shop. I was wondering wether to buy one or the other and I chose Roger Waters' opera because at least it is something new. But perhaps I will buy the "Back Against the Wall" album in my next visit to the record shop. Anyway, since it's been some time since the last post here I was wondering if any of you guys have finally got it and, if this is so, what do you think about it, is it worth it?

Re: Very interesting new "Wall" tribute album

I finally got my hands on it and I'm listening to "Vera" right now. It's a bit early to give my opinion since I'm just listening to it now for the first time. So far, I can tell that there are some good points and some really bad ones that make you appreciate even more the "original" and the live version of ITAOT. Steve Morse does a good guitar work in "ABITW Part 1", Adrian Belew performs nice vocals on "In the Flesh" and Ian Anderson's flute sounds beautiful in some acoustic passages...

...but they totally destroy "ABITW Part 2" and "Comfortably Numb" (the solo is awful), some arrangements sound a bit weird and you really miss Roger Waters vocals in most of the songs.

Perhaps I need to listen to it more but... Nothing can beat what the Floyd did back then.

Noted that is was rated a lowly 2 stars and this comment ripped from the site speaks my mind (except that I spell better AND I will be in diapers again soon):

Does it do Pink Floyd Justice?

"This is probably a biased review due in part to the fact that I have listened to Pink Floyd since I was in diapers. I belive this line-up of musicians is amazing, and their talent combined is worthy of this tribute. However, they could have done better. Despite the ecocentric eighties style voices and guitar riffs, the blend of instruments doesn't give the respect to David Gilmour and Roger Waters. The respect they have earned after over thirty years of writing brilliant music. This tribute album's only positive aspect is that it will possible create some publicity for the Floyd, which seems to have been lacking in recent years. Thus, in my opinion, this is a good album, with excellent musicians, but it does not do Pink Floyd justice."

My hat's off to some most excellent musicians for the tribute. I am sure they enjoyed doing it, and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all, But Pink is Pink and everyone else is just, well... NOT.

Re: Very interesting new "Wall" tribute album

I totally agree. I should have known that putting a lot of brilliant musicians together doesn't necessarily give a brilliant album as a result (Asia anyone?). There are some brilliant instrumental passages and several excentricities that ruin the whole thing (mainly the vocals). The flow and the spirit of the original are seriously damaged.

Yes ,its rather old.But the whiny Ian Anderson vocals on The Thin Ice don't compare with the original. In fact ;the whole album is a fake.
