Question about Brain Damage lyrics

In Brain Damage, there is the line:

"and if there is no room upon the hill"

Is that a reference to the Beatles "The Fool on The Hill" ?

What do you guys / girls think?

Re: Question about Brain Damage lyrics

Yes, quite possibly. Madness and all that.

The song's fingerstyle guitar riff is also similar to "Dear Prudence."

Re: Question about Brain Damage lyrics

Could it be there is a saying in the UK that "institutions" are commonly on top of hills?

Being from the US I wouldn't know.

No offense ever taken. Glad you got a laugh out of it. Kinda got a bit of a chuckle myself.

Re: Question about Brain Damage lyrics

The lyric is actually "and if there is no food for the pigs". It's a reference to the song "Pigs on the Move", referring to the band's craziness while they were writing The Animal Farm.

A lot, it turns out. He reminds me of Joey's cohorts.

Re: Question about Brain Damage lyrics

"There is no room upon the hill" is in reference to the dam breaking in the previous line, meaning that you're gonna drown if there is no room at the high ground, i.e., hill.

Re: Question about Brain Damage lyrics

I think the dam breaking refers to the walls that keep one's sanity in check breaking down and letting the 'lunatic' out so it doesn't seem like the hill should have anything directly to do with a flood.

More like if you lose it and go crazy, and if there isn't anywhere to go (with the fool on the hill?) then I'll see you on the dark side of the moon...

That's just my take though maybe I'm wrong, we should ask Roger.
